Store cctv system problem

Hi guys, so my partners father has a local spar shop and the cctv is going haywire, the box is beeping its shutting down and then loading back up and repeating this sequence.

After load up something flashes up in the blink of an eye and it definitely had hdd there but can't catch the rest.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

use your phone to video it, then pause at the critical point,

what sort of NVR/DVR is it,?
have you tried powering down, remove all cameras, and reboot,
if its a DM it could be a HDD fatal, which makes it basically a doorstop

I tried to capture it but can't get a clear sight it's just showing light bubbles, anyhow I am not familiar with these things but I got into the logs and it's full of system failure messages I think your right the box is knackered.

what sort of box is it?
some can be easily recovered,
some are doorstops,
an HDD failure on most boxes isnt usually the end

Format HDD for a start and see if it improves. I have to format mine every 2 weeks or it starts to act daft giving stupid messages

The box was almost void of stickers or names but when it loaded up the screen showed h.214 as did a small sticker on the box, it's a few years old now.

thats the video codec it uses,
thats really ancient tbh,
analogue tv standard almost,

as above, you could take the HDD out and format it on a PC , find out first what format it is in now, then wipe it and format again,
or, it could simply be that the HDD is done, and a new one needed, but at that stage, just get a new NVR/DVR, as yours is well past its use by date

have you got a proper video HDD in it?
most HDD are not rated for 100% , probably only something like 20 or 30% use,
as when in a PC it doesnt actually run very much at all
but in a DVR it runs constantly

On my box it is menu/ playback/ disc and format from there. If you format on a pc you will still have to format it in the cctv recorder.

you should only have to initialise it, like in an E2 box,
most DVRs cant do a deep format, even if they are based on linux, its a basic kernel they run on,
I'm still waiting for what box OP is using, as if it is a Dedicated Micros, then some of the FW is stored on the HDD and it cant be recovered while still in the box, and needs FW re-installed before it will work back in the DVR again

I am only stating what my box is like, as I have had problems with it recently . I replaced the HDD with a new 7200 HDD and it wouldn't play ball and the only disk it would work with is a 1tb from an old sly box only after it was formatted in the cctv box even after a pc format

did you format it using windows?
windows cant deep format under normal conditions.
its not the speed of the drive, its the work rate it is designed for, video HDD is designed for 100% , PC HDD is designed for [as I said] <30% work rate

It is working OK when formatted in the cctv box, the box is designed to do its own maintainance when activated . the 7200 rpm was not suited and had to be the 5400 rpm HDD. I DONT WANT AN ARGUEMENT I AM STATING WHAT I HAVE FOUND WITH MY BOX

the disc speed has nothing to do with it,
maybe you have a box that is only compatible with a limited number of HDD, I know some boxes that will NOT work with Hitachi drives, thats an issue with the box, not with the hardware

It obviously has something to do with it or my box with 9 cameras would not be working now. Which is nothing to do with my suggestion to the OP to format Hdd to see if it improves his situation.

the disc speed has NOTHING to do with it,
its simply an incompatible HDD
some boxes are like that,
doesnt matter how many cameras you have, as long as your box supports them,
I install these things for a living,
this is one of the reason why I do NOT install customer bought boxes.

Well and I thought you said you were a sparky, not a cctv tech, and to put the record straight my box Formats the HDD it does not initiate like an E2 box. Your fishing expedition over, you had a few nibbles but no serious bites.:):):👍:

ye mate,
I'm a spark,
a proper one,
nothing about fishing,
30 years in the trade, doing all sorts,
polis certified for CCTV in strip clubs and Brothels, not many CCTV 'techs' [whatever they are] can say that,
thats like all these people that add engineer to the end of their name, a proper engineer actually has letters after their name [yes, I do have, but dont often feel the need to use them ]
I merely pointed out that you had a problem with your box not recognising the HDD , nothing to do with the speed of the HDD, and perhaps the fact you were trying to use a data HDD for video may have been an issue with you have to reformat it.
my own box has been running for near 7 years with never needing any maintenance, and, its a cheap chinese box, as I got it to see if they were actually any good before installing for a customer on a budget.

The thing is .... all this crap because I suggested to the OP to format his HDD to see if there was any improvement. Now the poor geezer has to ask his original question all over again after reading all this crap between us , I didn't say my box didn't recognise the hdd, I said It was giving out stupid messages as and when but was still working and recording
