Stream Authentication

I've enabled stream authentication on my box, but it doesn't seem to be working. When I connect directly to port 8001 with a URL that is full and selects a particular channel, the stream just starts. No authentication is prompted for?

I've enabled and tested http auth and that works fine. I am making sure the http auth is activated whilst attempt the stream auth. Does stream auth work? If not, how am I ever going to be able to expose my box to the Internet without it being hijacked by randoms?

It looked like stream auth needed a reboot as it did finally kick in - Unfortunately VLC prompts for a username and password and my root username and password combo are not accepted.

Does no-one use stream auth?
