Told them how to run a spyware program I use, and it found almost 100,000 infections.

They had McAffee anti-virus and they said it had an anti-spyware built in with the program. They had the comp almost 2yrs and thought that all they needed to do was run the disk keeper and disk defragment on accasion.

Dan, it's worse. They have an unsecured wireless network, that their neighbors use heavily, slowing her bandwidth. I had her use SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, Windows System Care, and Disk Defragger from Iobit to clean her system. CCleaner alone removed over 650mb of junk.

Woops, thats bad. The neighbours must use torrents or something similar via her wireless connection, good to get it secured incase shes given a warning for illegal downloads by her ISP. :fear:

Yeah, I know. Told her if they do anything bad or illegal, she will be the one looked at. Still can't believe people leave their wireless networks unsecured.

She had that personal antispyware spyware in her system. Kept popping up telling her she needed to buy it to surf in safety. Her anti virus didn't see it, or it disabled it and she didn't know. I had her d/l SuperAntiSpyware, update it, and run a complete scan. It found over 100,000 infections including browser hijackers, rootkits, malware, trojans, tracking cookies.....I told her to stop telling me as I could feel my hair turning white.

Was on mobile till midnight. Had to connect it to the charger, as my battery almost died. Haven't talked to her how to secure her network.

Not bad for being about 1,000 miles apart. Kept her from getting overcharged by Best Buy's Geek Squad.
