A former couple appeared in court today on drugs charges linked to the death of model and socialite Katy French, who collapsed of a suspected cocaine overdose in their home.

Businessman Kieron “Wolf” Ducie and ex-girlfriend Ann Corcoran were also accused of reckless endangerment between December 1 and 2, 2007 at a brief hearing at Trim District Court.

Ms French (aged 24) died in hospital four days after she slipped into a coma.

A post-mortem examination revealed she suffered brain damage and traces of cocaine were found in her system.

Ducie (aged 40) of Lambertstown Manor, Kilmessan, Co Meath, and Corcoran (aged 29) of Tolka Road, Clonliffe, north Dublin, were arrested at separate addresses.

It is alleged that between December 1 and 2, 2007, at the Statoil Service Station, Bracetown, Clonee, Co Meath, Ducie conspired with persons not before the court to possess cocaine with intent to supply.

Corcoran was charged with conspiracy to possess a controlled drug at the same date and place.

The second charge alleges that on the same date at 10 Lambertstown Manor, Kilmessan, they intentionally or recklessly engaged in conduct which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to Ms French.

They were each remanded on bail and will reappear before Navan District Court next week.

Born in Switzerland, Ms French and her family moved to Ireland when she was a young girl and settled in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.

She had celebrated her 24th birthday just days before she collapsed at the couple’s house in Kilmessan.

Her parents John and Janet and sister Jill maintained a bedside vigil for four days as the model lay critically ill on a life support machine at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

The model, who became a tabloid darling in the two years before her death, had previously revealed she had used cocaine, branding it part of the Dublin social scene, but quit the drug, warning others of its dangers.

Olympic champion swimmer Michelle de Bruin, Irish rugby star Shane Byrne and singer Chris de Burgh, along with friends and colleagues from the modelling and fashion world, were among the hundreds of mourners who packed St Patrick’s Church, Enniskerry, for her funeral. "

Anyone that uses drugs know the risks and Katy French was no exception.
