I've got a Skybox F3 that the usb port has just suddenly stopped working. I know that others have had this problem and am wondering if anyone has managed to find the cause. Have checked the port for dry joints/continuity etc. all ok. hard drive works fine on other boxes. Have even reflashed the firmware. the hard drive light comes on and the drive spins up, usb supply voltage does seem a bit high (5.9volts). Any ideas?

Have you tried a memory stick in the USB port to see if that works?
Is the hard drive powered by the USB port, or does it have it's own power supply? I'm wondering if the F3 power supply might be failing & no longer able to supply all the current that the hard drive needs.

Thanks for the help. I have tried a usb stick----no joy. I even tried swapping out the power supply for a known good one. So I guess it must be the usb controller. I know these boxes cost next to nothing, but I just don't like giving up if there's half a chance of fixing something.
