what does EOL really mean ,

ok i know the literal sense of the term "end of life", but what does it mean practically in use! i enquired about a woosh download on my new box and quite rightly i got the eol of 6.4 and woosh etc etc reply, but regardless as i currently use it on my octagon ( last 3 years) so i put it on my new pulse box and it worked first install without fault on one partition whilst trying to install willow on another has been shall we say not been without issues .
so what practically will happen with woosh in continued use will my box explode on 31/dec 2025🤣, but really will it not boot one winter morn, will my wifi/ Ethernet connection be less secure, what will be the issues i can expect?
 
EOL just means its no longer supported. And depending on the image it may block you downloading bits like drivers, skins etc. An old image can run perfect for years but if you get a blip and ask for support you will be advised to update image.

I run old images with no hassle and update very infrequently.

that's what i mean, i find the old plugins i use run just as well as any new ones , i understand if the SHTF there is no support from the developer etc , but i find there are common issues that occur in old and current images & plugins that can crossover and be resolved with you helpful guys here. 👍, and i do appreciate the advice even if i dont follow it 😆
 
i mean what the likely hood of everything stopping working permanently or irreparably?, image, plugins ? i accept when it does its time to move on, but then again i run a 1935 car 🤣

Your 1935 car will work fine as long as you can get parts and fuel for it, once the fuel is no longer available then it will become less useful.


Some plugins need to get files from the developers own servers, ie Autobouquetsmaker, if you start losing channels as they have changed frequency etc, you normally just need to update the provider files in Autobouquetsmaker and rescan. But for older versions of the Autobouqutsmaker plugin, new provider files are no longer available so you need to upgrade the AutobouquetsMaker plugin itself. As there is not a new version for ATV 6.4 that would then mean updating to a newer ATV.

Now if you're not using ABM plugin then it's not an issue.

thanks grog, this i one thing understand more now re older images, what about the images themselves presume they will just keep working ( i presume your would still work?) until with no support further development something goes wrong, ?
 
Grog build may well still work , but it's already outdated and no longer gets support or updates


I know you say your having problems with the newer images , always a few teething problems with something new. But I'd persevere and try and get a more up to date version working .

may be but i did say first off ,( i put it(woosh) on my new pulse box and it worked first install without fault on one partition & whilst trying to install willowbuild on another has been shall we say not been without issues "( & still not working for me!) . its just down to what still works for me i suppose and was just wondering what could/would go wrong using a outdated image with a given of no ongoing support 😏

Well one thing just to start with all your plugins will not update because feeds are gone for EOL images so if lucky and if some plugins are available then it will be manual download from forums if they still support older python versions and developers move on and only support later python versions . But if you think working for you at the moment then I wish you luck.

the plugins on woosh i use are all still downloadable in downloads and still work as i use them i have not yet had to use a manual download ,i dont think it works or need luck really , it just works and has for past 4 +years? on the octagon all the while woosh has been EOL.
BUT as in life all good things come to a end and all the answers here (which i wanted to know and why i asked what would happen like channel changes not been amended?) point to a slow demise of the image not a y2000 crash😃
And if it fails to work i have atv7.4, 6.7open vix and PLi9 on the other three partitions so wont ever be without iptv, so until it fails to work woosh is just my preferred image 🙈:smiley:
