hi guys,

might be a stupid a question but i reset my superhub the other day as my pc gaming connection was poor, which fixed the issue. i just happened to look on the the connections to the hub and my zgemma h1 box is on there identifed as "gzemma-star-2s" if i can see this i take it virgin could see this also. is there anyway to change the name of the box to something less obvious.

Thats what i was thinking. It is a sat box/freeview box though.

My point was mine was showing up as a twin tuner sat box opposed to a h1 combo.

I always wondered if Virgin could see the box on one of the routers but effectively it's only a modified freeview box at the end of the day.

Somewhere in network settings you can yes. Mines just called 'Gemma' :)

This is how to do it....ftp into box..then into etc...then scroll down to hostname and change it to whatever you like, exit ftp program, then restart box.

Changing the name is one thing but the MAC address will not change, I think its manufactured by Shenzen Air Tech which has a mac address range allocated for its products which will be unique to each box but the address start range will be identifiable by Virgin, Sky and anyone else with a desire to find out. I know that they also manufacture Open Box branded receivers some of which are on a banned list in EU and the MAC address is tracked by Internet Providers. The only option is to find a MAC address changer such as Technitium MAC Address Changer but not sure how this can be used on this box. I will have a play and post any findings.
