What usb sticks are you using

One is a SCANDISC 8GB

The other I don't know. How is important is a good quality USB ?

I'm finding the H2S so much more complicated than my old Skybox F5. I am avidly reading anything I can on TK's in the hope that I can crack it!

As long as its a genuine sandisk that will be fine,Low level format using HDDguru and then format fat32 and then it will be flash ok

It really confuses me at times that so many people have issues with USB flash drives.
I just used a old sandisk 8gb I had knocking around, didn't bother to format it, just deleted what was on it and copied the zgemma folder across.
It worked first time and every time since

I had a similar issue with new fancy, large capacity usb sticks not being recognised. Went and got some little 4gb sticks to keep as a Master flash and backup. Then installed the large disk for recording. I use an SD card for EPG, timeshift, swap file and Picons. All stuff i learned from this amazing forum and it's great members.

I have found on my box that it won't flash using a Toshiba 64gb USB but a 32gb is fine. As these are the only 64gb sticks I have I don't know if it is a 64gb thing or just this brand. Like djgarf though I just wack in a smaller USB from the drawer and it works. I have only had one USB not work for me and it was failing and really so it went in the bin.

Thanks for the all the help. I still haven't solved the problem! Last night I used the Dos commands to format the usb from the command prompt clean, partition, fat 32 etc. Still nothing in flash mode and the box fails to recognise a backupstick when I try to create a backup image. The box correctly flashed the first time to open ATv but not again ! Very confused

I have tried 2different sticks now also

options for me would be to try

a new usb stick,

when trying to save back up images create a file with the name backupstick.txt on it

then after that try a flash online to latest atv version and could try your own build with the guide on here

Hi All thanks for all the help much appreciated. Decided to work on the open atv image. This I managed to get working ok. So very pleased. Given up the idea of changing the image, as the open atv image worked well. But the flashing issue was weird, I tried many formatting tools but always got problems. When I with returned the usb to the pc, the pc flagged an issue with the usb but when I clicked on fix the problem, the pc said usb was ok, no idea! happened on win 7 pc and win 10. Thnks again to all !!

Having the exact same issue, bought a zgemma hs2 with open atv already installed, want to reflash but it keeps ignoring the usb and booting openatv
I've changed the file name to force
I've tried holding the front button while booting
I've tried factory reset
on my 4th usb stick now!! - <tearing the little hair left on my head out!>

Would there be any chance that the openatv installed has a setting which deliberately skips the recognition of a usb while it boots ? ? where would this be?
Is there anyway I could change something in the root folder to force a reflash or even restore to factory settings pre-flash??

Sorry I'm new to all this but techkings is an absolute inspiration - reading the threads makes me want to learn more just to help the following newbies!

Thanks
