Citroen xsara Picasso - engine problem

While driving I felt a big thump and then lost engine power,coasted to a stop. Tried to start it turned over but wouldn't fire,can anyone help please!

Sounds like your timing chain has snapped. The thud could be a valve dropping into your piston because of your timing chain snapping. To check, remove oil cap look inside at the head and ask someone to turn over your car, if nothing is moving inside then it is the timing chain. New engine will be needed. Not trying to scare you but that could be what it is.

or engine is a petrol and timing belt gone same scenario as above ouch.

if you turn over and it spins faster than norm then the belt went chance of no piston damage are slim but there is a slim chance the thud could be compression not escaping, take the time cover off at top to look if you dont want to spin it over to check,then have a compression test done that will tell you for definet if piston damage has occured
