SD channels quality

no it means not pixelated. ie the wife records all her soaps on SD channels, purely because if line ever goes down then they wont be effected and they are fine when played. If she is home then again she watches them in SD live and there is nothing wrong with them and believe me if she thought it was a poor picture she would let me know

Dont know mate what is happening then with my SD channels and SD quality.

As you others have said its decent and good quality but that is nothing like that for me.

So peeved off about this issue. No answer it seems.

Dosnt every woman let us know.mate lmao

I think soaps, e4 etc are fine in sd. Its when you're trying to watch sport and the action is fast. Picture is a bit naff then. Fortunately there are other birds in the sky to compensate for this

I am guessing you mean motorised euro satellites. Not an option. So expensive. Also my family are old school so never would be able to get used to it. Just a waste of money imo. But I know alot enjoy it for huge amounts of content.

But I have tested SD on FTA channels and premium channels previously and honestly SD quality is appalling on SD generally

if you have cable whicih I assume you have as you say SD looks bad on both sat and cable, why not just watch the HD version of channels?

Not just cable mate same on sly.

As I usually watch HD but family watch asian channels in SD as there is no HD versions of them.

Thats why I made the thread to see if could do anything to improve SD quality on both sat and cable as currently any SD channel try to watch is horrendous really us.

lots of the asian channels are in HD on cable?
star gold
star plus
sony tv
sony max
zee tv
zee cinema
living foodz
Are all in HD

Yes I know they are but they dont watch those, they watch channels from across the border such as prime tv, new vision, geo etc which are only SD.

Get a couple of tests and compare to what you have now to what another cable line could offer in picture quality could it be down to cables and splitter @pabloescaban could that have an affect on picture quality or line provider

You can put another lnb to the side of your existing one 19e + 28.2e on a sky mini dish. Not expensive at all.

Dont think line provider will make much difference.

Cable are cheap but still good quality same with splitter.

Ye I know multi lnb you can have few sats instead of full blown motorised setup.

But tbh mate no one will watch other sats plus most channels gona be in different language. So for me not worth it.

Sky Atlantic in English, Eurosport in English, most movies in English,

1080i = interlaced , not proper HD , or SD for that matter,
I would guess you have a wrong setting on your box resolution.

Also, expensive HDMI doesn't mean better, make sure it's an internet HDMI at least as a minimum standard. Decent 2m leads can be had for 5-£10

no name splitters and cheap cables are 99% certain to impact on the picture quality
the only splitters worth using are Tratec, Technetix or Labgear, not expensive but top quality
if you have VM broadband, you could have bad signal/power levels
on the bottom of the router is a 'settings password' write it down
open a browser window on laptop and type 192.168.0.1, click enter
use that password to login to the router
click Advanced settings on the left, then tools>network status
this opens a new page, click Downstream tab at the top and it'll show all the data in a list
copy and paste it here

Do any of your mates have a box to try on tv to see if its better and remember only insert/remove while powered off.
That would be my first test,i have a tm nano se with a bug of stutters and a reboot fixes it.
I cant see a line issue as fta is also bad.

If you are using the hdmi cable you got with your previous sky TV box, the one with the pink end, then that cable is pretty solid. My 1m and 3m both from sky both do 12bit 2160p

Dont get me wrong probably is alot of content in english on motorised mate but decided not for me and I know parents who mainly watch TV will not be able to use or get used to motorised. So no point wasting money imo.

So what is the right settings I should have for resolution mate for the box as not sure why the SD quality is the way it is.

I believe I have 1080p not 1080i but I swear I have read multiple people saying the latter is true HD

Ye HDMIs I have are one I got from online. Have changed HDMIs as well. Plus the one I am using is proper sly HDMI from original sly box.

I believe its konig splitter I have that poor quality? Ye cables I got were from ebay but got told they will be good enough if short distance.

Believe my mate worked at VM before and had spare cable left over but not sure if still has any.

Like I said mate its not just on cable. Same atrocious SD quality on sly as well.

Is there issues with power levels have VM did state they are in sync?

Yep that is exact one I am using mate with pink/purple end.

So dont think HDMI is issue.

Tv is not on overscan by any chance?

No mate. Overscan is off.

Power levels are fine, SNR is also fine but the Konig splitter is dung
not sure what cables you have but the Tratec green moulded ends ones on fleabay for about £3 for 1.5m are very good
There's also Tratec splitters on ebay, or there's Labgear if you live near a Screwfix for about a fiver
