GrogBuild Can’t access openwebif terminal

Hi grog, or any other resident genius. I trying to reinstall freerange on H2H box. Got openwebif but when I click “terminal” nothing happens, can’t access login. Any help/suggestions?
cheers

The box had ATV 6.1 with freerange. I did online upgrade but only went to 6.2 so decided to do new install, but didnt reset box or anything.

Not all receivers will have the terminal aspect of OWIF installed. Vix does not install it on any of the receivers, ATV does not include it on some receivers.
The package is called openwebif-terminal, it is listed under extensions

Easier to use Putty, end result is the same, you are issuing commands to the Linux OS on the receiver.

IMO, everybody using these receivers should following on their PC as a bare minimum
Putty/telnet client (even enabling the one in windows)
FTP client
Linux compatible editor (notepad++)

I’m not fully clued into this but I used owif to put freerange on initially somehow so presumably it was ok then. I’ll check extensions. Thanks

On your box remote Press menu/information /about

What version number is showing?
If 6.4 you can't use webif Terminal or filezilla/putty without the password

I'm confused, do you have grogbuild installed already and trying to reflash or do you have something else on the box at the moment and trying to install grogbuild.

If you already have grogbuild freerange installed then terminal should work, if not then as has been mentioned terminal may not be installed but then if that's the case the link to terminal in webif normally isn't there if not installed.

As I said above, try using putty

He has terminal but it doesn't work.
I think the updates he's applied have screwed something up
Probably need to flash plain openatv 6.4 first then run GB FR command line

Hi Everyone,

I have a zGemma h2s box and am familiar with OpenWebif. I recently changed from using an old iPab image to using Grogbuild.

I am looking to watch live TV and recordings on my connected HDD (under 'movies') via Openwebif if this is possible. This way I hopefully can watch them using a laptop browser on Windows or on a Chromebook. The closest I have go so far is to view a still image of what's on TV!

Please can somebody tell me which settings I need to change shown in the attached 2 photos (which are of the 2 set up pages within network settings)?

Thanks,

Paul

open webif and in the main menu on left click on movies, this will show all recordings in the /media/hdd/movies folder

Click on the stream icon next to the recording and a m3u8 file will download which you can open in vlc or something on your computer.

The same for live tv, click on television in the main menu on left and then browse to the channel you want, click on the stream icon and it will again download an m3u8 files which you then open.

Thanks Grog. This works fine when using some media player apps on my Windows 10 laptop but not having any joy on my Chromebook. I think this is because it's very limited with the number of apps that allow you to play different types of video files. E.g. I haven't found a media player on the Google Chromebook that works - even VLC player won't play any of these files when I try to using OpenWebif.

On a separate note, just wondering if you saw the thing I posted about the problems I'm having trying to access my zGemma h2s box / recordings on my connected HDD since I overwrote my old iPab image with your one (as per Willow's suggestion)? I think the answer must somehow be related to a username and/or password issue as Willow mentioned the latest versions of OpenATV need a password to be used.

Please can you take a look when you have a few moments? Here's the link to what I posted on Tuesday at 1:01pm:

Installng / using a HDD on ZGEMMA H2S

Thanks,

Paul
