Options/ideas for SkyQ and c/s setup.

Hello.

I have been told by my partner that next week she will be getting skyq installed and an extra mini box for the bedroom.

At the moment i have sky hd+ downstairs and a another box in tn bedroom.

In my spare room/cave i have a Tiviar enigma2 box and a line on that box.

When she told me i asked about the lnb and got a blank glare on her face so sky are not fitting a hybrid/smart lnb as far as i know.

I want the Tiviar box to stay where it is.

1. Can/will sky person fit a hybrid lnb or will i need to request it?

2. If sky person will fit one will he/she have to look at the Tiviar box as i read somewhere that sky will fit hybrid lnb if Freesat box is to be used.

3. I have an aerial lead from downstairs sky RF out to my Tiviar box as it has sat and freeview combined. I know the Q boxes don't have this option but will i need an amplfier/booster to still get reception on the upstairs tv and downstairs tv also?

4. If sky will not fit hybrid lnb if i buy one will the person fit it instead of a normal sky q lnb?

Sorry for so many questions but she told me today but she got this deal 4 weeks ago and has only told me cos she said that she/we will have to clean the tv stand and sort out the wires up and downstairs.

She got signature, sports, cinema, hd and 1 mini box and multiscreen for £48pm so not a bad deal. I asked about another mini box but she said as the deal was done on chat they can only do 2 boxes but call up and get another box but they want £50 .

If you have any problems with the installer
Say you want to Move the sky h.d box into
The spare bedroom and use as freesat
When you disconnected the Ariel from r.f Out you will lose your u.h.f signal Your areil
Should have a masthead amplifer fitted beside it This will be powered by a distribution amplifer You might have to
Connect the cable to the distribution amplifer It really depends what why your
T.v distribution system is set up in your
Loft If you have t.v wall plate you.might be
Able to Connect the Ariel cable from it

Best to refer to your Tiviar as a "Freesat" receiver.
1. Best ring up and requests the Hybrid LNB for your "Freesat" receiver before installation. If they don't fit it, you can change it yourself.
2. they don't need to see it.
3. Try with a splitter. If it doesn't work, get a powered splitter/amplifier.
4. See what they say when you ring up. If they refuse buy one and ask installer to use it.

At the moment i have sky hd+ downstairs and a another box in tn bedroom.

Is that with a contract or not? If in under contract might have issues with both services by Sky.
Recordings will no longer work or used on the old box.

Many more feeds might be needed if going the hybrid route.

Would they fit a new box, dish and cable with a new install and told to leave other in Place?

they will fit a hybrid LNB
but, you will need a dedicated feed from the LNB to your box

I have a single feed from the dish to the Tiviar box upstairs.
It was the old feed that we had for sky box before we went over the sky + HD.

I have heard that they do that but on the sky community forum there have been a lot of users saying that the installers are not doing that now.

All i have downstairs is an aerial lead from the chimney aerial going into the wall and into the sky + hd box and then rf out lead to upstairs and into my Tiviar box and i have a magic eye to control the box downstairs.

I will have to try a splitter to see if can get reception downstairs and upstairs or i will have to get amplifier if it will not work.

1. I will get her to call as the account is in her name.
2. That' good.
3. I will try that option.
4. If i need to buy one do you have any idea what make/type to get? I will only have 1 cable for the Tiviar box and what ever is needed for the sky Q box.

She got a deal for Q after putting in the cancel request and this was an offer for the new Q setup.
She was told the once the Q is setup the other boxes will not work and all recordings will not be able to be watched.
All sky + hd boxes will be replaced with main box downstairs and 1 mini to replace upstairs sky + hd box.

For your LNB question, item 153740721809 on Ebay. Item 264875709522 has a diagram if it helps. But to repeat, Sky should supply it if you request it.

Thank you for that info.

I will take a look later.

My partner will call sky up in a day or 2 to ask about getting one fitted.

She called in her lunch break but after 35 mins and no rep to talk to she had to go back to work.

My partner got an txt from sky about the install today and forwarded the attachment to me to read.

It stated that due to COVID-19 sky installers WILL NOT be able to enter the homes and all dish setup, new installs and new boxes will be done from outside the home and the customer will have to connect up the boxes to the sat cables and whatever else is needed and the installer will have to instruct the person from outside that persons home(on a phone?) so it seems now that i will have to have everything unpluggd sky boxes and Tiviar box so it will be quicker for me to do the swap.

She has tried again to ask sky but still can not get through so it may have to wait till the weekend to ask about hybrid LNB.

She or myself will have to be there when it's installed and one of us will have to make sure that they still connect the Tiviar sat lead to the dish and the other old sat cable for the upstairs sky hd + can be snipped off near to the airbrick( that is where it enters the bedroom wall) so i can just pull it through and scrap it.

Had a hybrid LNB installed by Sky, no problems my other feed was to the TV for freesat. I think you'll find most engineers carry stock.

Thank you for the reply.

Do you know how long ago this was as i have had a few people say that Sky installers dont carry them now and the installers will only fit them if it was on the job sheet.

I have spent a few hours n the phone to a non uk sky call centre and none of them seem to know what a hybrid lnb is and just say all will fitted on the day. I mentioned about COVID restrictions and they said the installer will set everything up in the home so non uk sky call centres are not aware that installers are not allowed in customers homes.

Had mine fitted just over 12 months ago, I didn't mention it on my initial Sky Booking, the engineer came into ask me if the 3rd cable was in use. The call centres may not be technical so might not understand the requirements, as per most call centres they are scripted.

just tell them if they dont fit a hybrid LNB then you dont want it installed,
they will soon fit a hybrid for you

I was thinking of doing that until today when i gat a sms from sky about my installation date and in the sms i says there will be a charge of £25 for nobody at home, missed appointments and if i cancel 24 hours before and on the day so i a don't think that tactic would work and i have waited over 7 weeks for this installation date and on sky community forum some people are now have 8 weeks lead time.

Thank you for telling me that.
I think the non installation of the Hybrid started 3-4 months ago and it maybe down to the installation person on the day if they have any on van or can be bothered.
Some installers will call the day before but then it depends on them having any in stock.

What if you purchased the Hybrid LNB just in case they did not have one in van you surely they should fit it.

I'd go with that,
and if you purchase on-line you could always send it back if they do have one with them.

I was going to buy one but i need it by Thursday or Friday before 8am as that is when it's booked in for, well 8am to 5pm.
I am off Thursday and part of Friday and my partner said she will be home very late Thursday night so i could not get one delivered to my home as nobody at home.
Has anybody got a place where i can buy a Hybrid lnb from and get for Thursday delivery?

I just checked ebay one but has a 2 day delivery so Friday sometime. Out postie has been delivering very late since the start of the year and we dont get any post till after midday so the sky installer could of been and gone by then.
