Broadband Retentions leaving Virgin question - Price increase

I've cancelled so I'm due to be switched off on the 20th March so let's see what happens between now and then.

Worse scenario, wife or son will sign up on a new deal.
I spoke with another agent at length today about the recent deal I was offered and they said I would now have to pay for a V6 as that was offered on a different day and its changed, what a crock of poo.
I'll update here when retentions phone me.

So they just rang
Went through it all , I asked about the telephone line but nothing they can do its cheaper with it.
The 18 months contract ?, argued trying to get it for 12 month but he wouldn't budge he said that's the one thing he can't do.
Saying that, he hinted that, in theory you can leave after 12 but the deals for 18 but he then tried to back track on that.
I said if I'm in for 18 you better offer me a good deal.
We struck a deal on:

200meg bband thats double what I get,
Latest V6 box min TV package (for the missus tape her crap)
Telephone weekend calls free

£32 a month which is far better than £57 for a 100meg, TiVo , telephone
Could I have got better ? Probably if I had of said na but its less than a new customer pays £32:99 so I'm happy with that.

What number do you ring on to cancel? I have been trying for 3 days now chasing my arse to find some one to talk to.

Yeah 150 there's an option not sure were though that say is if you are thinking of leaving us.
Key is, don't listen to them, they are not retention, they don't have the deals. My first Virgin guy offered me what I got for £43 I said na I will think about it then called back and cancelled. They might even put you through to the retentions and they'll offer you a sh7tty deal
and why ?
because at this stage you still have not activated your cancellation notice. Only once you make it clear and the confirm you are leaving will be when you will get the very best deals.
You MUST activate your cancellation they will read the script back to you the 30 days notice and you will receive a parcel. so make sure you do this give notice you are 100% leaving loud and clear. Dont sh8t they will 100000% ring you back.

Then sit back, mine took all of a day. Now when you get the call ask them "Are you from retention ?" if you get the nod just say your skint better deals all that and blag blag blag. Don't be too greedy or they will say well thats it. I kinda said I'm not happy all these years and if your new you get it for £32:99.
Like I said , could I have got more ? , possibly but £32 isn't the earth and far better than £57.

I phoned up to cancel vm, i really was going to cancel, ny mate works for bt put the a new connection for tv and broadband, so i phoned up let play out, think must been 45 to get through, i said i am def going cancel, i am going with bt, asked what price, i said 38 bucks, my new virgin contract was going to be just over 50 bucks with no great tv channels and 100 meg speed, he said what if i give you it for 22 bucks how about that for next 18 months, i never thought i would get that good offer, so i kinda played with him for a bit, don't want let my mate down, but that is a good offer, so few mins more nah not sure, ah just go for it..

Doubt it !! -- I am currently paying £28 for 50meg and phone line......! (but that goes up to £44 in April when my loyalty discount ends..)

I'm looking forward to when my contract ends so I can negotiate a deal like yours

£22.50 for 100mb
Land line
No tv
Going up £2.50 in March so it will be £25

Been with them twenty years but only 12 at this address

As I mentioned before, Tesco are a business and they can choose who they deal with.
They can ban anyone they like and they don't need a reason.
I was going to bring this point up in the Virgin retentions thread a few days ago.
@loncell mentioned that he would cancel and rejoin after 30 days under a new name.
Virgin said 90 days minimum.
They mean it.
They do not 'have to' accept any new customer at any time whether 30, 60 or 90 days have passed.
Tesco aren't obliged to serve anyone they don't want to.
Virgin aren't obliged to provide anyone broadband they don't want to.
I had an off the record chat and the 90 days is only for the same person cancelling then re joining there's a 90 day wait before you would be classed as a new customer. But, if you cancel, dont re sign someone else can sign up the day after yours ends and to a different bank account same house hold, same surname not a problem. As far as he knew he hadn't heard anyone been refused and he had never been authorised not to accept a new customer only if a crime or fraud had taken place. It's another Virgin scare mongering tactic. Anyway I got my deal so Im happy :)

Like I said , you MUST set in motion the cancellation and do not listen to all those before. Only when your cancellation has been activated do the retention team call you and magically pop up with crumper deals no one else at Virgin can offer. It's in his retenetion sweetie deal bag waiting for you. Dont be angry or snarly jolly be goes and all will be revealed.

My B-I-L cancelled in January wanting a better deal.
They offered him something he wasn't happy with so he cancelled proper.
He told retentions he'd rejoin in 30 days in his wife's name.
They told him it's a minimum of 90 days but even then they may not allow a new account at that address.
He blew his top and they basically told him he's got a note on his address and he won't be offered a package at all

Well if you are foolish and tell them of your intentions then blow your top that different. Who knows he might have been abusive. Go on Virgin forums lots do it without a problem but mods come on on tell you different, again its scare mongering you into staying.
I'll give you a prime example, i read on Virgin forums ppl cancelling and waiting for retentions. Then up pops a Virgin mod saying:
"Oh and you run the risk of retentions not ringing you then you will be without Internet for 90 days"
He fails to say you can cancel your contract cancellation anything up to the 29th day 23rd hour 59th minute of your 30 days notice. Retentions took a day to ring me.
Again, scaring you into staying and pay top dollar. Im just happy lots don't ring and cancel or they might clamp down. Year after year I get a better deal

He ordered Vodafone broadband.
They said 3 weeks to installation.
They didn't turn up.
They gave him another date and didn't turn up again so he told them to shove it.
Been without Internet now about six weeks.

Can't get anyone to install it because no one will enter the property.
IOW only VM can provide him broadband during the pandemic because the equipment is already there.
I believe they knew this before offering him a crappy deal

A friend recently had Talk installed no probs whats so ever, I think your friend has anger management issues and its not Covid, their scared sh*tless of entering his property

I got right through to retentions by button presses last night 'press number 4 if you wish to leave' Oh! yes please. I really just wanted to get shot of TV and
phone as my package was to double next month, To cut it short l ended up with same package as i had 200mb and big bundle for £35.00 on a new contract. Contract sent by email this morning

150 on virgin mobile was the only way I could contact or on live chat
Thank you

tell him to get a 4G/5G router

Did you actually activate to cancel your contract and serve a 30 days notice then hang up or did they persuade you not to cancel and offer you a deal there and then ?.
If you accepted it without actually activating to cancel your services and serve your 30 day notice you won't have got the best deal.
As I said, once cancelled you are flagged up as a leaver in retentions. Only then can they offer you the very best deals.

yes l was offered 2 or 3 deals and got what l wanted in the end except for tv and fon which wanted shot of, but to get best discount she had to leave them on, basically they are a freeby for 18mths.

So you cancelled then a day or two later retentions rang you back ?. I only say this because the difference between a Virgin operator ringing you, retentions ringing before you've told them your leaving and a member of retentions ringing you but only after you've confirmed your leaving is night and day.

I had a Virgin a op ring me twice before I told them I was leaving and then a retentions guy called and he only offered me the same as the Virgin guy £43.

But I then cancelled and told them I am 100% leaving and gave them the required 30 day notice. The next day after saying I was leaving retentions phoned me and offered the same deal as the Virgin op but for £32, a difference of £198 over 18months.
I only say this so others are clear on which people to speak and get deals from at Virgin.

Normal Virgin op or retentions without telling them your leaving = sh*t deal

Rententions team but only after you've told them you are 100% leaving and you give them a 30 day notice (they call you confirm its retentions)= best deal
