ABOUT TIME ( DITCH THOSE FIRE STICKS )

I've read thru and not seen any recommendations for reasonably priced Android boxes from China. I've ordered a couple to try so I'll see how they go. Got a cheap one on at present that works great on Ethernet but the Wifi is shit.
Be careful don't go to cheap some of them are deadly slow

Google have said they will not remove side loading through developer options use ADB commands.
Whether they change that in the future is anyone guess but they will only stop traditional side loading of apps that the developer doesn’t have a Google developer license.

I will look into this further over the weekend and early next week, at the moment I have a Shield and Thomson 270 which I believe are both Google. I used to have the Formuler z11 but wasn’t getting on with the remote so if I was going to buy a new device I would prefer a remote like the firestick or shield has.

You should have no real issue with those devices.

Yes so what about the Dcolor GD1 4K TV Stick that quite a few of us bought a while back it has Amlogic chip but google certified.

I can’t see you having issues tbh.
When Google actually alters side loading for apps that the developer doesn’t register and purchase a developer license you will still be able to sideload those apps via ADB commands.

I've a Shield mate and ill not worry unless they start to block apps, they could block apps if they want to. Thats is what anyone buying has to keep in mind.

It's a guess what they will do in the future.

If i was looking for a device now it would not be certified.

They will 100% be blocking, they already have the FOSS community up in arms about the app store.
The 2026 plan will block sideloading, updates will prevent currently sideloaded apps from working, and there is talk about the possibility of being able to disable sideloaded apps from as far back as Android 10.
Linux devices will probably become more available, but at a guess, there will be a lot of different roms available, if forums like freaktab could have afforded to continue they may have seen a resurgence back to 2012 - 2016 growth/activity spurt.
It looks like the rollout could take at least another year, but if some sources are to be believed, it could be a lot earlier than that with disabling possible to happen on older devices forcing people to upgrade their devices.

I'd agree with that, roms becoming available for previously certified Google devices essentially rendering them none certified.

Doubtful that will happen with Amazon devices but im sure some workarounds will appear.

Just dont buy certified or Amazon devices if your in the market now is the advice i'll keep spouting.

They apparently are not blocking side loading but blocking apps whether you side load or not
