Amazon to block ‘dodgy’ Fire TV Stick apps from TODAY in new major global piracy crackdown

There is : I've taken the liberty to copy it below :: @inadayswork made the original post

"........Ok, so I got a little guide for the above. Does come with some caveats, though.

1. This won't work with a VPN running, but might do with some tweaks to the VPN settings if available.

2. Amazon music or any other Amazon app will not work, other than Prime Video

3. You won't be able to install apps from Amazon app store, but you can do via Aptoide or another 3rd party app store.

Setup guide

Via downloader install these 2x apps if you haven't already got them

1. Adguard - Adguard_v3.6.54_mod_apkdone.com.apk

2. Aptoide (replacement app store) - aptoide-latest.apk

3. Once installed open Adguard app

4. Turn protection on

5. Go top left to the 3 lines and click on settings

6. Click on Content blocking. Make sure everything is on & create local vpn

7. At the bottom, user rules, open that

8. Turn on

9. Click on + bottom right

10. Type in ||amazon.com^

11. Click save

12. Go to settings - general. Make sure auto start is enabled. By default it should be

13. Before you exit make sure protection is enabled

14. Once you exit, go to my Fire tv

15. Click on About

16. Click on Check for updates

17. After a short while you will get a message saying "update error".

That's it, and in theory a permanent fix to stop updates coming through......."
that worked for me thanks

If it's being rolled out in Germany and France first, UK users probably have at least six months to put away a fiver a month and buy an android stick/device that will do the job just as well as their FS, and they'll avoid any possible disruption to their service.

Maybe this will explain in laymans terms
The expliot came out which enabled third party launcher and l.m settings to be installed on the 4k firestick max and third generation fire cube which are based on fire 0S 7 and 8 .The 2 generation 4k firestick is based on 0S 6
so the expliot will not work The expliot is installed by adb link which is installed on your computer, similar to f.t.p tool which is used with enigma2 recievers. With the
Sween Wolf command .it gives you the ability to disable all updates and adds .You take control of the firestick

The company has started rolling out software update version 8.1.5.3 for Fire

TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max devices. This update patches the exploit that allowed users to gain system privileges on their streaming devices.

If your device has 8.1.5.3 you will not be able to do the expliot .If you purchase new device just of the shelf its still possible be disabling the updates on your router in firewall by blocking the u.r.l
Updates

Amazon Update URLs to Block in Router:

softwareupdates.amazon.com

d1s31zyz7dcc2d.cloudfront.net

prod.ota-cloudfront.net

This may not be possible on certain routers

Then @inadayswork came up with a guide to use adguard to block automatic updates Which is another method

Just to add if you do not like the interface on yoir device you can download Third party launcher like projectivy with boot launcher downloader code28907 generation a six digit code go into downloads launchers
Download projectivy launcher and boot launcher

I noticed this morning after firestick boot up there's an amazon update waiting to be installed, adguard seems to be working.

ISP Block during spurs utd game in Ireland yesterday. The pressures mounting .VPN needed to circumvent it.
Depends where you are as a general rule, but I'm in the East Midlands and ISP blocks in 2024 to present.
1 hour before a games kicks off, block is enabled by VM. (PL and European games from Tuesday to Thu)

Turn VPN on then 25/35 mins after game finishes the block goes off.

I think the update shouldn't have shown up if adguard was blocking the updates.

I'm sure most of the times the updates don't automatically install after being downloaded. So Adguard hasn't done its job IMO.

First time in years yesterday. We'll see what happens today as the provider has countered it.

I've rebooted the stick, the update hasn't installed even though if you check on updates screen it says it will automatically do it next time system reboots.

I'm never turning the firestick off now lol.

and then there was a power cut
Lol!
I actually had the firestick powered off the TV USB so everytime it was turned off & on it'd reboot the stick, this morning I decided to plug it into the wall socket so no sneaky rebooting for the foreseeable future.

Ok, came across an issue today and think it is related to anyone on os 8.1.5.3

With the DNS blocked to stop updates, it still builds up bloatware. I've only got 400mb spare storage out of 12gb. Using chat gpt it seems that Amazon tries to download the updates periodically and it uses up storage that can't be deleted anywhere manually. Instead, you need to run adb commands to stop this happening and giving you this lost storage back.

I'll post later when I've confirmed this

Ok,what I've done is factory reset the box and re-installed my apps. If you are blocking software updates via your router then you don't need to worry upon re-installation.

I think the easiest way to stop the bloatware accumulating is by using adguard and adding the Amazon URLs to the filter list. I've added several so far, but want to keep any eye on my storage over the next few days to see if it noticeably increases. Once I'm happy I think this is working, I'll post a guide. In the meantime if storage is low for yourself and the device is slow, clear as much cache uninstall as many apps, not being used as possible.
