Installing motorised dish on north facing wall

I'm planning to replace a zone 1 dish for my Dad that's above the gable and suffers severe break ups on 28.2e from leaves on trees opposite.

With a LOS for most of the easterly sats from the front of the house extremely difficult, I'm considering installing a motorised dish on a north facing wall round the back overlooking the main roof to gain distance.

He was using Satback when it was on 27.5w due to a lack of options as there aren't any trees at this end of the arc. That was with a zone 2 dish on the front which could be moved to 30w and combined with the new install.

We have a Technomate 2300 motor and a Gigablue UE UHD receiver already.

Considering a 65cm Triax dish, around 24" t&k's, around an 8' x 50mm pole, V bolts and wall bolts etc. Also been recommended a 68cm Fracarro Penta aluminium dish and an 'H' type bracket.

There's an extension roof at the back that I could stand on to do the work where the main gutter is at around chest height. Any thoughts appreciated.

What size dish was he using before on 28.2E and are the breakups only bad in summer when the trees fill out or all year round. The rear wall motorised setup sounds a better option tbh if you can clear the roof line properly

Yeah, been suffering severe break ups last few summers on 28.2e then goes alright again come autumn.

It's the zone 1 minidish seen in the pic in my OP on the pole above the gable end.

It was originally installed underneath the apex on the gable but has had to be moved higher and higher over the years and the trees have caught up once again.

It could possibly go a bit higher still but we can't reach it especially as the gap to fit a ladder is extremely tight and also requires a fence panel removing hence this new install.

Here's a picture of the existing 28.2e dish taken from behind, which you can see faces into trees.

Yeah that definitely sounds like the trees are the issue then mate especially if it clears up again in autumn

Tbh I think the rear wall motorised setup with a 65 or 68cm ally dish is probably your best shout now rather than trying to keep chasing height on the gable again

Go for 80cm minimum, 90/100cm better.
Would a 80cm or larger dish be safe on a north facing wall above the roof?

My understanding is a 65cm dish is safer and can be pushed higher up the pole to overcome the trees.

I would prefer to use a bigger dish, if possible, but just worried about wind factor and stuff.

Yeah, the leaves are definitely the cause and I agree a motorised install on the rear seems the best solution.

Would also have to get somebody in to reach the existing 28 2e dish and there's no guarantee how long rasing further up the pole would even last.

Yeah exactly mate and at least with the rear setup you’re future proofing it a bit instead of constantly having to raise the pole every few years as the trees grow more

Who owns the land where the trees are?

It maybe easier/cheaper in the long run to have them reduced in height.

If they are the next door neighbours you could go halves if they agree.

You could always use satback on 15w
Unfortunately, anything further east of 27.5w including 15w hits trees when it comes to dishes at the front of the house. It's why we didn't move the zone 2 dish on the front to 15w when Satback moved there as that dish now only really has a LOS for 30w where it's situated. Could easily get a LOS for 15w from this new install on the rear though.

You could complain about the leaves and twigs/branches becoming a nuisance to your property. I don't think they would do anything.

How close are the tall trees to your house?
The trees are opposite. There's a row of them aligning the pavement on the other side of the road and the very biggest is an extremely old one slightly behind the others.

It's unlikely my Dad would complain about them. He gets annoyed that some of the neighbours have complained and had trees felled over the years.

I also can't see how they'd take a bit off the really big one as it's absolutely huge and probably over a hundred years old. Think they'd either completely chop it down or nothing.

Would an 80cm dish be alright on a long pole above the main gutter on a north facing wall considering wind and stuff? I would prefer one if possible.
