I only have a limited number of IPTV channels in a custom bouquet and I renamed them all manually to the same as Sky channels.
Have a word with your provider about IPTV picons.
 
Is it just trial and error to get willow to have channel numbers and set up like my old one was or is that impossible these days?

You've pressed the up button to show the multi epg. There are no numbers by default on that screen.
From live TV, press the down button.

Yeah followed full instructions , its defo willow build and updated as it said in first page. I just assumed it was something in set up I could change like how many rows and seconds timeout etc ?
 
Even on plain ViX, you can set it how you want. You have mentioned several things, it's easier to resolve one thing at a time.

Don't use the multi-epg, use the grid EPG. Once the grid EPG is open, press menu. There is an option called "service title mode". Change that to what you want. Number, name, picons.

For your picons, the look like they are an old set, perhaps saved on a USB stick. If you are going to continue using them, you will have to manually rename them.

I am just about there on set up Picons are fine even on IPTV , I just assumed I could change a bit in user interface and when I press down channel list appears with channel numbers , I don't get that mines is main list showing freesat, skyUK IPVT sections , which is usually the FAV button in remote control.
 
You are pressing menu then down, that is why you are not seeing what people expect.

With no menus open, pressing up/down (next to okay button) shows the channel list. (Unless you have changed something.)
 
The long way round of getting to the channel selection context menu.
Menu > Setup > User Interface > Channel Selection

To show the channel numbers in the service/channel list change the option that says
Show Channel numbers in channel selection

Please note,
EPG screens are different from channel selection screens
Channel numbers are cumulative in Enigma2. They depend on how many bouquets and in what order they are loaded.
