Yep Southampton hopefully easy today but not being show on any of the channels.

Back on track now.

I think s*y are having problems with this change over, because with the size they are, If I was 100% tha
n there new system was working great then I would have moved all the channels at the same time. Not 1 or 2. they must be having problems which means there is a way around it.

I suspect it's a small amount of channels at a time for other reasons including older box compatibility. As mentioned earlier in this thread (?) and on trlhe sly forums themselves, the Thompson boxes cant run the updated software and codec. Therefore doing it this way they have a gradual stream of users calling in with issues who need new boxes (which we think Sly are providing for free?).
Otherwise if they did all channels at once then they'd have a whole load of unhappy users all at once to handle.
Their new system works, it is just a matter of time, enjoy your subscription HD channels whilst they last, then either enjoy them in SD or get yourself a Sly HD subscription.

That's quite an assumption
I've never worked anywhere where where big deployments of new systems or equipment etc. has been rolled out 'big bang' style, it just isn't prudent to do so.
There are also a lot of big customers to consider with big head-ends, they would not be comfortable with that sort of approach.

IIRC, they did it area by area, ramping up as they got the infrastructure in place

no big bang

I'm actually working on a project now that will be a Big Bang but that is because we have to
It's not a comfortable thing to do so you don't unless you have to.

hello, first time posting, I have to agree with robbies-nuts, I love the football but there is no way I'm paying sly the ridiculous amounts of money to watch it.

posted back on 22/08/2009 we were the guinea pigs
nagra 3 and still selling boxes to Ireland.

Just got a huge dose of nostalgia reading that thread Cacti - Mooley, Knotaclue, JC12,Reddevil, Babs, Firsthand, NoelyF, (tongue firmly in cheek)etc.

This is the reply I have just had from my provider so fingers crossed " It's a long explanation how it all works but to cut it short, work has already started on bringing it back.HD won't be lost forever and SD will be around for a long long time in he meantime"

I find that interesting; whilst I want to believe this and it's obviously the intention to find a fix.......the cynic in me can't help think this is the reply of a supplier trying to keep his customers happy....? i.e. gift refunds etc etc. HD not being lost forever is not the same as "there will be a fix within the next month"
