What's new

GAA football and hurling

I think that the rebels will have to come out all guns blazing, or else Kerry will overrun them.

Best of luck to the Cork team - players, mentors, backroom team and everyone involved - as they go to Croke Park seeking a well-deserved All-Ireland victory.

This year has been an emotional roller-coaster, from the lows of league defeat to Monaghan early in the year to the highs of turning that result around in the League final, the nail-biting closing moments of the drawn game with Kerry and the Munster Final against Limerick, and the sheer joy of victory against All-Ireland champions Tyrone in the semi-final. This team has given us as supporters so much entertainment and excitement this year, and all involved have demonstrated such committment and dedication that the honour of bringing Sam Maguire home after his long absence would be just reward for their efforts.

LADIES FINAL

Cork v Dublin, Croke Park, 4.00pm

Cork have set the benchmark in recent years and it is hard to look beyond the Rebelettes when it comes to finals day in Croke Park.

Juliet Murphy and Norita Kelly run the show in midfield while the surging runs of Briege Corkery cause havoc with defences. Upfront Valerie Mulcahy has had a quiet year but Deirdre O'Reilly and Amy O'Shea have been in fine form.

Dublin have not been in a final since 2004 but they have taken their fair share of scalps in the meantime including three victories over Cork.

Their full forward line of Lyndsey Davey, Sinead Aherne and Lyndsey Peat bristles with promise but it could be the contribution of All Star goal keeper Cliodhna O'Connor that determines the success or failure of this Jackies side

CORK : E Harte, R Buckley, A Walsh, G O'Flynn, C O'Sullivan, B Stack, B Corkery, J Murphy, N Kelly, N Cleary, D O'Reilly, A O'Shea, M O'Connor, V Mulcahy, R Buckley.

DUBLIN : C O'Connor, A Cluxton, N Comyn, M Kavanagh, C Barrett, S Furlong, S McGrath, D Masterson, N McEvoy, M Nevin, A McGuinness, K Flood, L Davey, S Aherne, L Peat.
