Just installed usb stick in back of box do i need to create swap file or anything.

If the usb is to be used for storage/recordings etc inicialize then create a swap file (256 or 512mb)

grog68 is correct in that its optional however I have found that depending on how bloated an image/build is with plugins etc having a swap file helps on entry level receivers due to lower specs, try without a swap file then if you think the box hangs a lot create one at a later time to see if it improves performance
