Dummies EPG guide

Season's Greetings and apologies if this has already been covered on the forum but I'm looking for a guide or instructions to setting up EPG listings for satellite channels on e2 boxes.

I have an 80cm motorised dish, so need something for multi sats. I'd also like to set up EPG on my Dad's Gigablue UE UHD, albeit he only normally watches 28.2e.

I've tried in the past but it's always been one of my weaker points, so any assistance, including preferred methods and plugins etc, would be greatly appreciated.
 
You should say the boxes and the images and skins you are using. and same for gigablue.
 
As you are using multiple satellites, it would be easier for you to use EPG Importer and fetch/download the Rytec EPG. This is pre-installed on OpenVix.

1. Disable the the inbuilt EPG readers. I.e Freesat, openTV, netmed etc, set them to off.
2. Set your EPG cache to HDD instead of internal flash. A restart is needed for change to take effect/
3. In EPG importer, enable all the sources that apply to the provides you want. Some cover more than one satellite e.g news, general.
4. In EPG importer, enable "Automatic import EPG" and set a time that suits you. Pick a time after 06:00 ( this when Doglover starts uploading his) and a random time. It will then download the data
If you don't want to wait till the time you set, there is an option to manually download, it is called Manual. Also available under blue button(extensions)

In EPG Importer, what's the best sources to select? Are there any overlaps I should not select?

I presume that in the Rytec General section, you have selected news and miscellaneous.

There are no overlaps if you are only using Rytec EPG because all the data is coming from the data he is gathering then uploading. The possible conflicts will be from the built in EPG readers. See point 1 above. And in your case, if you enable Satmate provider, there may be a difference, there may not be. But worth bearing in mind.

I've noticed there's a minority of channels on 28.2e missing both their picon and EPG data. These include BBC Four HD, ARISEPlay, BBCScotlandHD, That's 80's, Nicktoons, CBeebies HD, CBBC, BBC Three and BBC News.

Whilst most other things are working fine what's the best way to fix these? I'm setting up EPG on my Dad's box atm, a Gigablue UE UHD with Vix 6.3.02, who currently only watches 28.2e but would like it sorted on mine too.

The service references have to be given to the Rytec team so that EPG can be added for them. I don't use EPG Importer, can you get the references?

If you want to use an alternative method which does not use Rytec EPG, please say so and we can point you in that direction.

Are you using the SRP version or SNP version of picons? Best to use SNP as references do not have to be updated.
 
I'm fine with Rytec assuming that's the best EPG? I had been using SRP-full light on transparent picons but have since changed to SNP and there's noticeably only a few picons missing now and although I'm predominantly interested in the EPG data, I've compiled an exhaustive as possible list for reference and several entries are noticeably duplicated.

I reflashed Vix and started from scratch again and whilst the EPG info appeared on BBC Four HD this time, most other channels remained as they were. I realise some services, such as the BBC HD regions, are still only testing and I haven't bothered including anything that can't be watched, such as icam channels.

Apologies all references to the characters ':' and 'D' together have been autocorrected by the forum to emojis.

As Abu says, you're better off using SNP as service references change but channel names rarely do.

If I have any missing picons I just go to the Sky TV guide and drag the picon in the channel list to my desktop and rename it accordingly.

The picons on Vix server are built whenever. The ones on the picons github are built every Saturday night/Sunday morning. I'll try and add the SRP changes before the next run. Click on resources, you can then download and then install it.

For the EPG, a large port of those are Adult ones. Have you enabled that category in EPG Importer ?

The incorrect /missing ones need to be reported/relayed to the PLI forum. Doglover maintains this, there is a thread for 28.2E.

If your dad only watches 28.2, maybe an idea for you to set his box to use the OpenTV EPG reader, and do the zapping with opentv EPG downloader (only available on Vix, other images should use EPG refresh ). There is a thread on the other forum. That way you get EPG from the satellite.
 
@Kurdt Kobain, I hope I have understood the issues correctly. You should have had three sections.

1. Rytec EPG wrong/missing.
There really needs to be a dedicated thread on this forum for people to post so that it can be forwarded to the Rytec team on tehir forum.

I have provided the info on the other forum. It should be corrected tomorrow. Please post back tomorrow if still not resolved. Check the internet for the following thread:

2. SRP wrong/missing.
3. SNP wrong missing.

Maybe there should be a thread for ocram picons too.

Please wait for new picon build on sunday morning. Download and Install them and post a thread about it if required. Service references change regularly, so users need to report this. Most people use SNPicons.
A lot of the ones you posted have already been added, not your fault, but please check with the latest files.
 
If a channel (for example SS Sort 1-6 on 16E) doesn't have an EPG from Rytec, which EPG method can I enable from the list to get EPG for those channels?
