Firmware install?

HDD:
If your HDD is temperamental, put your receiver into deep standby, disconnect the power cable, open the casing and then disconnect the HDD. This will avoid issues with mountpoints changing.

ABM list of regions/areas:
On most receivers, pressing the Media button will open a list box. This is a better presentation and allows jumping through pages with left/right instead of going through every entry.

download fresh epg data, go to plugins>epg importer
press blue
make sure there's green ticks in all six categories under where it says Rytec UK Sat/Virgin XMLTV
press green to save
press yellow to import
Takes 4 minutes

Where do I download fresh epg data? From epg settings?

Will try this somehow and report back of issues.

HDD no longer in the box mate. Just using usb for epg and shows as media/hdd.

If need to put HDD in box again in future mainly for recording would it need to be in deep standby the box or can I just turn off at the switch at back of the box?

In regards to your second point/paragraph, what do you mean mate as don't understand?

While in providers you can press the media button/file list to bring up a list of regions.

Always have units powered off at rear for removing cables or usb sticks and for your case unplugged from wall if deep diving inside box.
Be safe and think health and safety for your box and you at all times.

Anyone know how to get fresh epg data downloaded as trying to get full epg on sly and VM?

Trying to follow what Pablo said.

Usually take usb without turning off lazy off me.

But if removing cables box turned off and if open box always make sure box is fully disconnected.

Your right about health and safety mate as with things requiring power don't want to mess around.

Do you want to use EPG from the signal stream or internet?
Do you want to use CrossEPG downloader or EPG importer
Have you sorted out your dish? Specifically, can you receive 11778, vertical, 27500?

Which part of the guide you were directed to did you get stuck at?
Did you do what Pablo said?

So you want to blow your usb port for not following rules?

USB devices are designed to be hot swappable. There is no physical harm in removing flash memory. However the problem occurs with mountpoints changing especially when a device is in use and also used for EPG storage. So best to put receiver in deep standby before removing the device. Just turning the switch off is not a good idea.

Not sure what you mean by dish. But not having tune failed message for weeks now if that's what you mean.

Am trying to do what Pablo stated but can't find where have to download the fresh epg data from.

So if you turn box off at the bottom if taking usb out or inserting it could it damage the box or corrupt the usb?

I am going to post advise on using EPG importer. If you do not want to do this, say so.

1. Disable the Virgin EPG reader.
Menu > Setup > Epg > Settings > Enable Virgin EPG (change this to no)

2. Set EPG cache location
Menu > Setup > Epg > Settings > EPG location
Change it to /media/hdd

Your USB flash drive is mounted as /media/hdd. If it isn't say so.

Reboot for this to take effect.

3. Setup EPG Importer
Menu > Setup > Epg > EPG Importer

There are various options. Read the screen for what they do. The most important one is
Automatic import EPG. Do not set anything less than 07:00. Picjk a time that suits you.

3a. Set EPG importer sources.
Menu > Setup > Epg > EPG Importer

Press Blue button for the "EPG sources".
You have to expand the ones you want and enable teh sub categories that you want. They will have a tick.

Rytec General.
Select News

Rytec UK Sat/Virgin XMLTV
Just select all of them.

Green to save.
Perform a manual fetch (yellow button).

The EPG will then fetch at the time you set in step 3 above

@Abu Baniaz

Is what you stating similar to Pablo?

Have epg currently set at 05:00 you advise not to have anything less than 07:00?

Wouldn't the epg update automatically or only at the time chosen?
