Hello forum,

Just wondering if there is an additional HD box that can be used with the Kryptview A780 to get the HD channels working? I got a new HDTV on order and wanted to explore the possibility? :)

There is a thread on here talking about using upscalers
with the box, i got the impression people who tried it didn't seem too impressed with the results

It would be interesting to know which upscaler's they used and if they used cheap scart cable, i think these factors would have a noticeable effect on picture quality, Its gunna be a case of try it and if im not happy with it resturn it for a refund i think. Is there any upscalers that would be recomended? i see a few on amazon in the price range of £29.99 - £174.99

only way to open the hd channels is to have a hd box,you maybe able to improve the picture from sd to 720 but you still cant view the likes of bbchd,bbc1hd,itv1hd etc,i have also found by using a good coaxial cable [ not 20 years old ] and tight connectors and i also use a powercleaner type surge protection to improve the picture,or i did when i had the cable.;)

I get ya mate, yeh the TV i got on order is a Samsung UE40D5520 its got a HD Freeview tuner so i can watch the freeview HD channels in HD, i just want to improve the picture quality from the Kryptview box for the likes off Sky Sports, the Movies channels etc which to me seem a little poor on the TV I am using now. Once i get the new TV I wanna take measures to improve the picture quality as it is a full HD TV and i was thinking an upscaler might do the trick for this. I recently bought a Konig cable splitter which is 2400Hz but for the coaxial im just using the standard VM cable and was thinking of upgrading that to a high quality cable too.

there is no problem in using better cables as it may improve picture quality even a better protected scart can have a difference on quality of picture but it is a sd box,any loose connection or splitters may drop signal level down,it may depend on what you are receiving before or after the splitter is added.

Why don't you price up all the bits you are thinking about buying
and compare the cost against buying a HD box ???
(Upto £175 for an upscaler ???)
Sounds like the cost will be near enough the same !!!

about 2 month ago i bought an sd to hd upscaler payed £50 for it and i thought it was a load of rubbish and i was lucky to get my money back, don't know if the more expensive ones would work ok,i would have to see one working first, but otherwise i would not go near them with somebody elses barge pole
