Have you checked to see that your video drivers are installed correctly?

Right click "My Computer" ("Computer" for Vista & 7)

Choose "Manage" from the list

Go to "Device Manager"

Look under "Display Adapters" on the right hand side & see if there is a yellow question or exclamation mark next to your Video card entry.
