Kodi on usb

Hi all.
Is it possible to download kodi onto a usb drive then plug it into your tv and work it from your tv remote????

You can get it on a fire stick etc but not sure about USB, as I would imagine you would need some sort of software for it to run from i.e Android or Windows. Would imagine there are plenty more people with much more knowledge on this situation than me though.

Not possible unless the tv has an operating system that kodi can run with
