MTV Channels to close on 31st December

I have just been reading that the MTV music channels will close permanently on the 31 December, I remember watching the original MTV going back years ago when it was at 19e, end of an era 😞

This is one that seems to be not a bad channel. Its octo star on 23.5e

Used to watch Ray Cokes every night (8pm iirc).

MTV and Viva were both great in the 90's.

Many a morning I would have Viva on whilst getting ready for school and they would be blasting out the uncut version of Living Next Door to Alice at 8am

I used to enjoy watching MTV as you didn’t need a subscription in the early years as it wasn’t scrambled with videocrypt, just needed a dish pointing at 19e. I think the only one was VH1 but you could get around this, by having a videocrypt decoder plugged into a receiver it would make the channel soft scrambled in videocrypt. If the decoder was unplugged it was viewable, quite annoying really. I think VH1 used the same scrambling method as Filmnet Central Europe which was videocrypt2

You could have the videcrypt decoder connected (or an IRD receiver) and bridge 2 pins of the scart connector to open VH1.

No one, it's not been on TV for 35 years.

MTV was great when it first started off but the actual main MTV channel hasn't shown music videos for decades, all that catfishing crap and teen mum garbage isn't going to keep anyone interested, especially when the same content is available on a dozen other channels, it just disappeared into a vortex of crap, - "help my underpants are haunted", "squeezy boils of the rich and famous", "slut beach island" and "800lb mingers with crustaceans living under their boobs"
