New router for IPTV

Currently using a BT smart hub 6 and I'm now thinking my router is causing problems with iptv. I have exhausted all other options, changing provider etc.....plus I keep reading how bad these routers are.

Any suggestions for what to buy. I can sell on eBay the existing router for about 40-50 so want to replace for the same sort of cost.

Is it just as simple as unplug the bt router and plug a new one in for BT infinity fibre or do I need to keep the BT router?

I have the 6 no problems with it at all

I thinks great,WiFi is way better and able to turn the light of its great lol

If you want to put a vpn on the router you will have to check before you buy, the router supports custom firmware then you will need a router and separate hub but if you dont want a vpn you can buy a router with built in modem and yes you just plug the router in and it set's all the settings itself, I recently purchased a Netgear R7800 and an openreach modem which used to be used with the old homehub 3 plugged in and all set itself up, I then flashed with dd-wrt and getting 66Mbps on vpn with infinity 2

I have same Router and no problems just as siilver as said, you might be just unlucky
some sort of fault etc you could ring BT and tell them it's faulty not working i.e kind of
accidentally drop it to be sure? they will send you a replacement then you would know
for sure before spending your money.
Good luck

In general my router works very well it's just iptv I'm having issues with and the router was my last thought. I have tried numerous providers, numerous ways......zgemma, fire tv, laptop and they are all bad so I know it's not my box.

Different providers all have the same problem with iptv so the router was all I could think was the problem.

Just keep getting freezing, buffering but with different providers....maybe BT are just blocking it??

Maybe iptv is just that bad????

Have you tried doing a factory restart on the hub

I have only ever done a standard reboot, never a factory reset. I spoke to BT about the problem, told them I was struggling to watch Now TV and they did a reset on my line between the exchange on my hub, made no difference at all. Weird thing is, I can stream everything else fine, I watch box sets/films using different apps on my phone/Fire TV and they all play perfectly in HD. No matter which IPTV service I use though I get nothing but problems.

Every time I ask the provider they just blame my end and say there is nothing wrong with their service, I could understand if I was just using 1, but I have had trials from so many people and they are all just as bad as each other.

have you looked at the router logs, to see if that gives you a clue
as I say I have the old BT HH4, and it does a "soft" reset of the connected equipment every hour or so (only found it by checking the logs), tried all the suggested fix's but no joy
when I was running c/s on my vu+ solo2 it would glitch at that time, but most other equipment would not see the "soft" reset

you may find your HH6 has a fault/glitch that no-one else has, if it is maybe try a reflash, before you buy new equipment
with my one I'm now (with the problems with IP & IPTV) looking at getting a modem and a router with dd-wrt on it

I have been checking the logs for the past few days and nothing stick out that matches with the times it freezes etc. I'm starting to think it's the provider again.....im sure a lot of them use the same streams so maybe I have just been unlucky that all the tests I have had all use the same sources.

I have used the request thread on here and had very little success. I need these providers that don't advertise etc as a lot of people say they are the best ones but god only knows how you are supposed to find them.

I wish I wasn't in a contract with bt or I would just switch to Virmin and get a cable box.....save all the hassle.

Have you tried disconnecting all other devices from the network and just leaving the box /device with iptv connected or I would just stick a pin in back of it and do a reset providers just tell you what they want to tell you or if you have an old bt hub router try that to see if it is router or iptv provider or bt been c***s

Factory reset router........no difference. Borrowed a different router from a mate........no difference.

Solution......I have cancelled my IPTV subscription, I have decided it's just sh!t and I'm now just going to use what's left of sly c/s :(

Gutted for you mate is there a fault on your line for your broadband usually you can go on bt website to run checks see if there's any faults

Don't know what box you have but I presume it has a decent operating speed and not loaded with unnecessary bloatware?

I'm running an h2s with basically nothing on it, only what I need. I also have tried a fire tv, again with only the basics on it that I need and I have also tried running via my suppliers Android app on my phone.

Broadband is fine. Around 40 download speeds. All blockers turned off, line tested by isp and no faults.

My supplier has now decided to rebuild my line to see if this helps......i guess I will give them another chance.....strange how they did this when I asked for a refund!!

Checked all this and BT have even been out to check the connection etc in the property and outside.

Best way to check, is to download VLC on to you computer. Press CTRL+N to open network connection, and paste the URL to your m3u line in there...

As long as you have a fairly decent PC, plugged in via rj45, then it should stream perfectly. If it doesn't, then it's either your connection, or your supplier...
