Open box stuck on LOAD

I have just changed from a fully functional SKY box to the openbox V8. I have connected power, satellite cable and HDMI all I have is LOAD displayed. Can you help please?

This sounds like it is "Bricked" which means you can only restore using a RS232 null modem cable(s) cable available on flea bay usually under £10 depending on quality, get one that says it can un-brick a satellite box as it will be configured correctly. Most users do not have the connection on the back of their pc or laptop so you will need a "USB" Rs232 null modem cable (this is usually 2 cables to connect to a laptop or modern desktop.
The next question is if your open box is a clone or not. Some people get really fed up when they discover they have clone, however I think both are fine whilst they work, they just use slightly different firmware. You can goggle if it is a clone or not, but it is easier to try 2 separate sets of firmware to get the box up and running. Contrary to what you may read, both an original and a clone box can be restored.
Try the instructions and firmware from here for an original box eopenbox (tools/recover) (sorry I am not allowed to post the links) , well written and clear instructions from a good website. If that does not work and you get a load or other fault preventing the box to fully start (usually stops at 093 or similar number followed by E001 after few minutes) try this website (clone firmware) for the RS232 tool software (openbox."dot" cm /index.php?c=article&id=112) and on the same site use this firmware (openbox(dot)cm/index.php?c=article&id=113) (there may be an update by the time you try this one (this version does work though) If you are still having issue and you are sure you have the right cable set up you can go to "Device Manager" on your computer and go to the device list and go down to "Ports" click on that and you should see your connected RS232 cable, at the end the name there should be brackets with the number of the port such as "COMM4) make sure you are using the same port number when using the RS232 tool, you can also right click this device and go to properties and then port tab, change the settings to the same as what you see when using the RS232 tool software.

Take your time and enjoy restoring your box, good luck.

Many thanks for your help. Sad that one has to go to such lengths for a simple plug and go.

If your computer doesn't have rs232 connection you'll probably also need a Prolific PL2303 cable to use with your null modem cable too!

I wish they had reset buttons, but I guess they make more money by driving people up the wall trying to repair them and so they go buy another. Incidentally I should add, when using a USB to do anything with these boxes (no matter what type) do ensure you are using a clean, ie formatted, USB stick that has nothing else on it. In my experience this can contribute to these issues.
