Is there way to lockdown everything on the box but allow software updates? i've gone through all the parental controls and unfortunately this isn't an option at the moment.

Yes you can do this with OpenATV 6.4.
TO LOCKDOWN EVERYTHING:
Press MENU
Select Setup
Select Decryption & Parental Control
Select Parental Control
Change Protect services to YES
(Change PIN is optional - default is 0000)
Change Protect Screens to YES
All other Protect... will show YES
Press GREEN to Save
Press EXIT x 3
SOFTWARE UPDATES:
Press BLUE or RED
Select Software Manager
Select Software update...
If Updates Available press GREEN to download...
If Nothing to upgrade press RED to Cancel
Press EXIT

Thanks for that. The only other thing I can see a problem is update provider file in Auto Bouquets section.
