In other news, my zgemma is still working so i've been using putty on the laptop to try and get the ip address the box is connecting to via netstat as advised by leopard. all i get back though are my ip address and '0.0.0.0'..any ideas? if i can get the ip its connecting to i can reconnect my other boxes and if it works post it on here.

He hasn't been contactable for months (Site down and email addresses don't work), if your sub was still valid it continued to work, and vice versa. Until now of course and obviously this is not his fault
Port0.org had nothing to do with no-IP who had a clear out.

Not sure why they'd do a take down so fast.
At this stage people should be using there own dynamic DNS and just update with the servers IP addresses.

Look it any file with mgcamd

Your should set up your own dynamic DNS account.
This will give you your own host name that is very unlikely to be taken offline.
From here you can run a nslookup on your servers host name that your provider gave you and use these IP addresses to populate your own dynamic DNS account.

Really don't understand :/
Is "temp/cd/tmp/ls-l" located on my usb stick after i have installed my line?

Open them in putty using Sudo cat
So for example do
Sudo cat /tmp/mgstat.info
But realistically netstat -n should be showing the remote IP.
Make sure the box isn't in standby when your doing this and ensure that a premium channel is clearing.

So...4 lines, only months old are kaput?
Do I just have to look for new supplier?
This is approx 3rd time this has happened with suppliers.
Don't like the hit or miss scenario.
I've missed more than i've hit!!!
Oh, and those were suppliers recommended from here.

Hi Watto, keep looking on here for the fix, but i'm not really understanding the recent posts. Some providers do monthly lines for around £5/6, so maybe worth trying them. I've used the forementioned for 2 years will no probs, even when he went quiet in the last few months. If there is a fix your line will become active until your 12 months is up

I presume having a vpn at the server end won't stop the dns from being detected/banned? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to educate myself.

For those that don't understand the whole discussion about IP addresses and DNS services.
Each computer has an IP (Internet Protocol) address, this is a series of numbers e.g. 86.56.145.168.
DNS (Domain Name System) is what converts those numbers into words which are easier to remember than the numbers. So when you type in www.google.co.UK into your browser, your browser sends a request to whichever DNS service your ISP is subscribed to, or you've setup manually in your router. The DNS server receives your request, looks up the IP address of the domain name you've entered into your browser, returns that IP address to your computer and your browser then navigates to that IP address to display the website (Domain). A lot more happens, but that's the basics of if.
So the server your line provider is using has an IP address. When your line provider gives you your line details, they've run it through a Dynamic Name Service so that if the IP address of the server changes, the domain name they've set it as will stay the same e.g. TechKings.org is really a set of numbers which could be changing in the background without your knowledge.
When one of these DNS hosting services decides to ban a server for breaching their terms and conditions, there is no longer a response from a DNS when your box is requesting the details of the IP when attempting to clear a premium channel, hence it shows as scrambled.
Hence people saying if you input the IP address of your server into you box line details instead of the domain name you've been provided, it will most likely fix it as its bypassing the DNS lookup and going directly to the server address.
Sorry if this is a mess I'm typing it whilst walking back to work.

No, no. Using a DNS hosting service allows them to negate this. So whatever they set the domain name as will remain the same, but the IP address from the server can change and will auto update the DNS hosting service.
So when your box performs a DNS lookup. The DNS hosting service will have the correct IP address
