Yes, Your best choice is that, which takes 2.5"SSD, or the slightly cheaper Octagon SF8008 v3, which takes M2 SSD. I have the more expensive Technomate 4k which is getting a bit old now and keep toying with updating to either of those

No, I am beginning to doubt your expertise and how much research you are doing. The faciity to record from satellite needs 2 tuners, the box you linked only has one.
This is what you need and the best place to buy as they will configure for you, ie add image, install hdd/ssd.

Well if I had a sky dish already, which he has, and I could get a box that would mimic sky for all the FTA channels then I would get a 2 x tuner sat box and if that same say box that had one tuner was only £7.00 cheaper than a 2 tuner box and the fact the site I linked will configure it for him then I would DEFENITELY go for a 2 x sat enigma 2 box that will allow me to record off the sat and IPTV. Its called a no brainer. And I am giving him good advice and you are .....

I see, thanks. They'd not even that expensive. Nor fussed about installing an SSD myself. It's been a while since I've installed an image though (other than Cisco kit lol)
Is one image better than the other? Can one just import bouquets so they more or less resemble Sky UK?
Openvix is a good image and supported by the guys selling that box. They can set it up to receive freesat for your region. Then your option is to download plugins such as BMX and Xtreamity for IPTV or as I do and configure/trim/allocate epg of my playlist on PC with E-Channelizer and simply push it from pc to box via network ip address.
You then get bouquets and channels in a typical satellite box fashion,
PS you will need to install "epg import" plugin if not already installed

Which channels do your parents watch mostly?
Have you checked to see if they are available on freesat? There are quite a lot of Asian channels available for free and these are easily recorded via freesat. Recording iptv is hit and miss regardless of the device or setup.

It is mainly Asian TV for my mum tbh and it's the likes of "Star" channels which aren't FTA
Honestly if my mum didn't want to record live TV, I'd be fine with a cheaper setup lol. If it records more often than not, then that's good. I'm sure she can be fine with some slight service disruption if it saves me nearly half a grand a year for TV I don't even see as it's at her house
If you are not interested in HD, SD channels still on work on OSCAM line. I do this to record my mums shows. She does not care about the picture quality. Its way more reliable recording on satellite than IPTV.
I set the HD channels equivalent to record on IPTV and it works like most of the time but if it fails the satellite works as a backup and that is always reliable.
A twin tuner box will allow you to record one channel and watch another to record a freesat channel or whatever channel you want.

Thanks. I'll have a look at the world of satellite link. It'd be good to get an SSD in there too, so she can record via IPTV
I don't even have a TV licence at my own house lol (Legitimately no requirement for it)
Besides, I kinda need to do the testing in my own house where there's no satellite connection at all.
You dont necessarily need an SSD to record. a HDD is perfectly fine.

You say oscam are we not talking icam which is not like cheap ccam lines but cost more for sky sd uk channels.
Don't get me wrong I do not take advantage of icam line as I have still to setup motorised system so only on 28.2e
I think its OSCAM. I mean i have the files in the tuxbox config folder of my ultimo.
I dont know the diff between OSCAM or ICAM tbf
Massive thanks to E2 Auto Timer function last night. Had set box to record 2 freesat channels during the evening whilst I went watch Footie with Son. What a surprise I found later when the new series 1hr intro and 2 hr episode of "Oak Island" was in my HDD. I was not aware the new series was airing so big thumbs up for the timer function still being active from last season.
