Broadband Retentions leaving Virgin question - Price increase

Me too, I found it hilarious as @Ferret. has got all his friends and family to leave VM and switch to Youfibre and now they are gonna be back where they started 🤣
I think with this take over happening its given virgin the chance to push to get customers back. The prices i have seen recently from virgin are as low a youfibre i believe. Although with you fibre you get get some really fast speeds.

😆

I and those I've moved made some decent money with referrals pal 😆 up to £100 quid a pop you laugh your head of if ya like.

Plus we all have matched upload and download speeds Virgin didnt do.

Its bitter sweet this cause i can move em all again if it is profitable 😆

This seems very underhand by Virgin.. we just had some competition and decent deals but now they seem to be buying them up....I am with BRSK...they have just been bought by Youfibre..got an email saying am with them now...and now Youfibre getting taken over by VM...can see them increasing prices...😡

My contract with VM ends in June, currently paying £24 for 250mb, due to go up to about £35.
I'm wouldn't be very interested in saving a few quid if they had been more reasonable through the past 18m contract, I specified NO telephone marketing calls, they specified i would keep my old vm email address.

Three weeks into the contract, my email was deleted.
One month into the 18m, the telesales calls began, I've blocked ten numbers from VM but they still ring every day without fail, this has been going on for well over a year. Every time I speak to them, I inform them that I'm not to be contacted by phone, they apologise then ring back, often within five minutes.

Ive got a Grain leaflet through my door and checked my postcode
250mb £9.99
500 £11.99
1000 £14.99
This is full fibre, not connected to BRSK or Youfibre/VM etc

Prices above are for 1st six months, then it's £10 extra per month for a year, so for what I've been paying VM, I could get 1000mb with Grain, moreover, there's a tenner a month discount for 1st 6m.
I have no need for those speeds, 250 is way over what I need but VM are gone, I was with them for thirty years but the past year has been a nightmare

I don't understand the problem , noticed it before some wanting to get better deal from virmin so cancel contract and sign up jfor new contract ust say under wifes name.
We have never had to do that towards the end of our 18month or sometimes when it was due to go up mid contract my wife just calls and renews contract at better deal never needed to cancle and put it under my name.

I cannot find my last post on this subject but I think we are paying £25 for 1GB fibre only.

To be honest I can't be arsed with VM any more.
I can't speak to them when they call every day because I'm trying to guess what they are saying, and then when I ask them the exact date my contract ends they dont understand English and just repeat the same gibberish, "plea no da yur cotra en zune anna wanna offa yu 500 meg fo uny taty fi pow a munf"
Click, gone.

They can't understand that I'm paying 25 and when it ends I'll be paying 35 so they offer me a new contract for 35.....I actually told one, " no, I'm cancelling in june", his (or maybe her) reply was, " how about 34 instead?"

Charging you £35 doesn't make sense -- new customer price is £25.99 (29.99 from april 2027) ::
I have gone down the 'cancellation' route in the past :
Once you say you are cancelling, 'retentions' (UK based) call within a few days. I just say I want what new customers are paying and always get it..

Past two times though, I have gone onto 'My Virgin Media' page, checked date my contract ends - if it is within a month there has been an offer there for me :
Last renewal the offer was a few pounds less than I was paying, so snapped their hands off.............

I've been with them for decades, it's how I always did it myself, although these past ten years have been worse with having to jump through hoops to get a normal price. They also increase (in contract) prices every year.

Grain dont have in contract price rises.

VM removed the email address I'd been using since 2008, even after insisting I'd definitely be able to keep it.
Another PITA was being unable to setup a new VM email address - i still dont have one now, 18 months later, this is because the (non) email address i registered with, a Proton Mail address, is still linked to the deleted VM one and i can't setup a new one, total farce.

Coupled with the constant bombardment of phone calls that I can't understand, that I opted out of ten times, and the fact that April 2025 seen a rise of a few quid, and April 2026 will see a second rise, I've had enough.

As I mentioned above, the sales calls continued at around 4 a week, even after blocking countless numbers all through March, April and May.
They emailed me a few days ago regarding my contract that expires on july 10

This is for 125 BB.
I only signed up with them because I could keep my email, I could have got a better deal 18 months ago but wanted to keep the addy.
It was switched off 16 months ago, and after me explaining this travesty to every Mumbai based telesales droid ten times a month, they still thought I was going to renew.
I put cancellation notice in yesterday.
Got a call today from a Scottish chap asking if I wanted to talk about my upcoming renewal, I explained there isn't going to be one.
This is my new contract with Grain:

This means that effectively I will be paying around £17 for twice the speed and no April increases, its 24m at £20, only British call centre staff, no sales calls. Happy days
