Running a custom Linux system, x360key is capable of immaculately emulating the optical disk drive in Xbox 360, allowing you to play all your Xbox 360 (and Xbox 1) games from any USB media. It is compatible with all Xbox 360 models, both Fat and Slim, and offers advanced features such as emulation of the AP25 protection.
After more than a year in development We are proud to announce one of the most sophisticated backup loaders the world has ever seen. Backed by a team of hardware experts and some of the most renowned and respected members of the Xbox hacking community We have no doubt this will be an instant success!
We are now taking preorders and the first shipments to distributors are expected to be sent out in mid-July.

How it works:
x360key consists of 2 parts, a motherboard and a remote.
The motherboard connects to the SATA bus inside the Xbox 360, and sits between the drive and the Xbox 360 motherboard. x360key is a full-fledged computer system running embedded Linux. It is capable of many things such as
- Emulating the Xbox 360 DVD drive
- Reading USB hard drives and other USB media with various file systems
- Updating itself and other hardware from USB media
- Communicating with the remote and other external USB devices
- And a lot more! (embedded Web server and Wifi connectivity for exampe)
The remote is a simple yet stylish piece of hardware that features an OLED display and 3 buttons. It connects to the x360key motherboard via a high speed USB2 connection. It also has USB for connecting USB hard drives and other devices. The OLED and buttons are used to control various aspects of x360key. It is also used for browsing attached USB media devices and launching games.

So basically, we can now(when this product is refined) put backups on a usb HDD and play away just like the Wii. I reckon this will be a big seller, if it can be updated as Microsoft updates their protection. might be an idea to wait a while in case it turns out like the forst generation jailbreaks for PS3, which became obsolete after a software update added to all new games.

Love the Intrigue, young Axxxo, look forward to hearing about it

X360KEY is coming... ETA end of june...

we can only say this: "XBOX OPTICAL DRIVE EMULATOR aka XODE" is coming... For now we can not release specific information or images, which would benefit x360key...
after seeing the features and prices x360key we can say that:

1- Fortunately x360key follows the "old" approach of Wode... XODE instead introduces a new way of working really original... we will surprise you.
2- XODE will work on XBOX SLIM since its launch with a 100% support of AP25.
3-Half price then a X360KEY in production!!! thanks the new "original" concept of point 1...

We plan to release a first proof of working at middle/end of may with a nice video working on a X360 SLIM console... and a detailed review near the release of X360KEY... Production will be ready on JULY.

We advise all to wait before place BIG pre-orders from WIIKEY/X360KEY team, it is wise to don't risk too much... after not tell us that there were not warned...

PS: we found time also to update WODE platform, finally the WEB interface is almost ready, we plan to release this feature next week.

Here's a news update from

Development Update: Maximus 360 Lizard partnership announced!

Posted on May 1st 2011 We are very pleased to announce that x360key has licensed the key extraction technology used in Maximus Lizard. This means that x360key will be able to extract the unique key from all Xbox 360 drives; Samsung, Hitachi, Benq, Liteon, and Slim Liteon - including the latest 0225 model.

Xbox 360 DVD Drive firmware flashing is *NOT* required to use x360key. However, this is a feature that may be added in a future x360key firmware update.

We have posted a new video showing the actual xKey hardware running Halo Reach with the new AP25 data on a X360 Slim with the Spring Update installed.

We are in the final development stage, and after due testing the product is set for an early July release.

Still remains to be seen how "live safe" this will be as emulation has been rumored to get you banned, still, could be good for offline use only, very good actually, we'll see...

While waiting anxiously for this truly unique product to release I (modrobert) got the opportunity to interview the xKey (aka x360Key) main developer. Here's a brief recap for our new visitors; this product will let you play all your Xbox 360 games from any USB drive!

* What products have the xKey Team developed in the past?
* XKey, Wode, Wiikey, Drivekey, d2pro, xenoGC, Qoob, Crystal Chip, Aladdin XT/XenoFX series mod chips for Xbox 1.

* Will xKey work with all Xbox 360 consoles, including Slim?
* Yes and as new drive versions appear we will add support for them too.

* How do you install xKey, is it easy?
* Very easy, it's Plug 'n' Play, if you can dump the firmware from your drive then you can install the Xkey.

* Does the Xbox 360 DVD drive need any custom firmware flashed to work with Xkey?
* No, quite the opposite in fact. You need a dump of the original drive firmware to configure Xkey. The good news is that's all you need to configure Xkey.

* How safe is xKey on Xbox Live compared to iXtreme?
* While we take every care to accurately emulate the XBox's drive we do not recommend using Xkey with XBL at launch. Shortly after launch we will release updates that address this.
Also, plenty of people have been banned while using CFW and there are still issues even with the latest iXtreme. For example, in order to pass the new Slim FW checks a lot of data has to be swapped around (C4E's so called 'rootkit'). This takes time and the checks take a lot longer to perform than they would on a stock drive. In the worst case it takes CFW takes 5 times longer to perform the check (15 seconds instead of 2-3). If MS have noticed this then it is quite possible that every Slim owner using CFW has already been marked for a ban. [See timing graph for details.]
By comparison Xkey features a powerful ARM9 CPU that can perform the FW checks *faster* than the real drive running stock FW. We have the horsepower & the storage capacity to handle anything the future brings.

* How will the new XGD3 disc format (eg. Halo Reach) be handled by xKey, any special backup considerations?
* We do not anticipate any problems with XGD3, game ISOs are stored on HDD and are not limited by the capacity of a DL DVDR. Xkey supports any number of HDDs upto 2 TB in size.
