Finally bought a tx5.
Struggling to get it set up. Will not connect to my wifi. I want to send the apps from my phone to the tx5 but they need to be on the same wifi network.

What app is best for sending files from a Samsung galaxy to an android tv box?

I'll start a separate thread for this.

Power off your router.
Leave it off.
Power off your TV.
Power off the box..

Follow these instructions in reverse, powering on router last.

Connect to WiFi and away you go.

I like the app atvTools for transfer but also the other features it has are worth the couple of quid the app costs imo. It makes setting up devices a lot easier.

Tried it and it didn't work.
It is finding my home network, name come up, I enter the password, nothing happens for ages and then it says can't find the home network.

And yes, I'm entering the correct password.

Did I read somewhere that there can be an issue between the 2.4 and 5 ghz network? It is an eero router and it has both.

Change the password on the WiFi, then reboot the router, then try again, someone had same trouble last week with a video doorbell

If I change the password I will have to change it on all the other wireless devices plus all the other routers on the mesh network! No thanks!

I tried to delete the home network from the TX5 but it didn't work. Is there a way to reset the box to factory defaults so that we can start from afresh.

As far as I know the only difference between 2.4 and 5ghz is the 2.4 is slower but reaches further, the 5ghz is faster but has less range. If you can put different passwords on your 2.4 & 5ghz networks and connect it to the 2.4 in case it’s hunting between the 2 and gives up.

I found the factory reset option in the menus and did it.
I've now got the wifi working. I think the issue was that the hardwire connection was plugged in when I was trying to set it up.
Got my phone connected and using the Files to TV I got a rar file sent to the TX5.
But they have blocked you from downloading any of the common rar extraction apps from the play store. :rage:

Instead they offer alternatives, I tried 3 and they all contain those adverts where you have to give them access to your data to continue. No chance! :rage:

Have you not got a PC ?

If you have download any apks to a usb stick then use the file manager on the TX5 to install them.

Why are you using rar files instead of just downloading apk’s on your phone and sending them to your device?

Too much hassle.
They are already on the phone so it should be simple to send them straight to the TX5, same as I did with the firestick using easy fire tools.

I can't get eft to link to the TX5 so that option is out.

I download them here as a rar file.
Send files to tv will not let you access apk files on your phone. Its a 'security feature' on android 11 and newer.

I download the app from here from links that @Ferret. and others post.
It comes as a rar file that needs to be extracted.
I can extract and install them on my phone no problem.

I can access and transfer the downloaded rar file.

I could download the apk straight onto the TX5 via downloader but most of the stuff I get from there is full of bugs and ads so I don't trust it. The stuff on here is generally safe.

Try atvTools. I use it on iOS phone and works great and has some other great features.
Android version has shell commands as well.
So once you extract rar file on your phone you can’t access the APK to send only install?

Just tested atvTools on an android tablet running android 15 and could send or install apks no problem from it to my device.

I use it ok

Well then it looks as though uncertified devices will never be for you mate.

I thought the uncertified devices didn't restrict what you can download.
But this box is not allowing me to download RAR, a common app, from the play store.
As bad as the firestick is as least I could directly install apps from my phone.

If I could get an app similar to Easy Fire Tools that would allow me to send apps to the TX5 there would be no issue.

atvTools should let you send APK or install them from any android device to another. It does for me.
Have you tried it?
I just downloaded the RAR app from the playstore on my device and it worked fine not sure what your issue is tbh.
Also what are the actual apps you are trying to install that are zipped?

Use a usb drive like ferret told you if you have a pc

I have 20+ apps on my usb and install directly onto any android device simple

I never have any google accounts setup on mine.

Thats the whole point for me, not been linked to any accounts.

You can't use the box without adding a google account.

Do you have to install a different operating system to do this?
