Tanix TX5 Seup problems

You can't use the box without adding a google account.

Do you have to install a different operating system to do this?
No Android same as any other box, if you side load your apps whats the purpose of a Google account ?

If you had to input an account on first start up, then logout or leave it your call. Either way youll still need to side load as a with a uncertified box not all apps will be available to you via any signed in google account.

When you boot up the box it goes through the info screens and eventually gets to this.
You cannot access anything else without signing into google.
Apart from netflix and youtube because there are buttons for them on the remote.

You can gain access by clicking on manage accounts and going through the menus to get to the installed apps.
But that is a long way around.

I thought I could enable apps only mode. But you have to sign in to a google account to do this.

Sorry if I seem thick but this is all fairly new to me. You guys have been messing around with this stuff for years.

atvTools should let you send APK or install them from any android device to another. It does for me.
Have you tried it?
I just downloaded the RAR app from the playstore on my device and it worked fine not sure what your issue is tbh.
Also what are the actual apps you are trying to install that are zipped?

Not tried the atv yet.
My tx5 restricts me from downloading certain apps from the play store. All rar unzipping apps are blocked.
I'm trying to install the player apps like BeeTV that I download from here as rar files.

It’s worth a try.
The only apps that I can’t download from the playstore are apps that aren’t compatible with my device so not sure why your device is being blocked from downloading unzipping apps.
Here is the download code for Beetv and Bear player.
Beetv 1437860
Bear player 2745207
Both codes from this site MJD

Installed atv and my phone and tx5 are connected.
Unfortunately I can't find any apk files on my phone to install.

I've been through all these folders and no apk or app folders. The only ones that show are the original rar files in the downloads folder.

It will not install these.

My phone is a Samsung galaxy a40.

Why don't you just create a new Gmail account that will allow you to sign in on the device it's really not rocket science. Call yourself BorisJohnson45@gmail.com. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...CCYQAQ&sqi=2&usg=AOvVaw32dqMciX_FbFBj4jkxH9kr

It’s because they have not been unzipped. Unzip them on your phone and then send them because you stated you can’t unzip them on your tx5.
You can also select install from atvTools once you have unzipped the rar file as you don’t actually have to send the apk to the target device if you don’t want to.

After a lot of head scratching I got it to work, I think in the method you are describing.

I clicked on the rar file and selected open with.
Selected the rar app.
In rar tick the box beside the file.
Click the 3 dots top rhs.
Select send
Choose atvTools
It then sends the unzipped file to your android box via atvTools and installs it.

Only app that doesn't want to work is TeaTv.
Had to sign into google to install downloader and surfshark from the play store. I used a disposable email for that.

You only get that screen if you try to start the Playstore, just checked on mine. You dont need to use playstore.

Must be a different version on my box. This login screen comes up automatically without clicking on the play store.
You cannot get past it without signing into google. It completely covers the home screen.
When you do sign in the home page is nearly as bad as a firestick with suggested viewing programmes and channels from google tv dominating things.
You can get rid of most of this by selecting to view apps only. But you can only do that when you are signed into google.
There are also pre installed apps that cannot be removed.
To be honest the installed os isn't any better laid out than a firestick. The os is forcing you to sign into google in order to access the home screen. I can understand why people install a different os on these boxes.
I wish now I had bought a cheaper box and had a go at installing a different os.

You could just install a different store like Aptoide, Aurora or F-droid if you wear are tinfoil hat lol.
These store will have AOSP and android TV versions of apps unlike AOSP google playstore that will only have AOSP mobile versions.
I just use the google playstore for official apps and sideload any other apps if I need the android TV version or they are not available from a store.
You can sideload downloader from an APK or from the other stores I mentioned.
Google has not control over my device even though I am using the their playstore.
I have playstore protect disabled.

Glad you got it sorted.
I have always used uncertified devices because you have freedom to do what you want on them. Not much bloatware either and some have root capabilities.
You can just stick a launcher on like Projectivy if you want it to look more like Android tv.

I boot into the Alice Gui that the box comes with no nag screens. There is a ATV launcher i dont use that and maybe that your issue. Choose the Alice Launcher

Ive not installed a rom on it as i quite like the Alice setup of the stock firmware, and no malware to be seen, but a slimbox rom is available for you to instal.

There is no option for a different launcher. It boots straight into google tv.

Try android settings, panels and interface, Home Screen and see if you have an option to change to another launcher.
Projectivy launcher is about the best launcher on Android but you have to pay to unlock some of the features. You will need to side load it as it’s only available from the playstore on devices running ATV os.

This is the box I bought.

It doesn't have these options in the settings menus. The box seems to be locked into google tv.

Home screen signed in to google.

Home screen in apps only mode. A bit better.

20260218_180156.jpg

I signed out of google as I have done before but this time it gave me the option of going to a basic home screen without the google crap controlling everything. Never had this option before and I like it.
