Tuner lock, failed, timeout, seeing a theme with these posts, software?

I've got someone with an issue, which started off with Timeout for Tuner Lock, I don't believe it's the cables, I don't think the tuners have packed in on the box. The reason, because there's a few more than a handful on here that have posted similar issue, update bug or not, just to believe it's the box or the dish.

Got them to flash my working image version (5.3), worked fine for all channels, next day it doesn't again. Flash again get FTA channels only, sorts it for a bit then it fails again. I know a fair other posts have had problems on the forum with this issue for it not to be ruled out as a possible software issue. My gut feeling is that it's too much of a coincidence and sounding a bit too common across this and other forums that cables and their tuners just pack in like that.

I know there was a bug in an older version of Open-ATV which was fixed. I thought it could be linked to AutoBouquetsMaker ABM, but even a start build from scratch revealed the tuner's weren't finding any channels. Just says tuner failed, for both tuners, tried alternate tuners, tried DiSEqC to yes, tried doing side by side cables, I know cables at the back should be top left, bottom right.

I'm not sure if it's a Open-ATV issue, not tried other images, I've seen posts that have had issues on different images, I found VIX would blue screen crash, a lot. But would a non Open-ATV re-flash of the box, followed by flashing the backup again clear anything on the setup?

Does anyone know where the file/folder for the tuner settings are situated on the box and does anyone have a working one. Maybe that could be it?

Either way, there must be a way to solve this and based on the fact it works fine then doesn't seems to me it's not the dish, I reckon it's the box, because it flashes and recognises there's 2 tuners connected I don't think the tuners have packed in, I reckon it's a software issue. There's some brilliant people on here that eventually solve everything and they know who they are and I reach out to them to get this solved

Here are a few things you can check.

Make sure freesat is set to no in abm providers.

Make sure you delete all previous abm bouquets on a fresh scan

Make sure provider is set to your area custom. Maybe even try a different area. Granada custom works fine for me

Make sure in tuner config both tuners are set to 28.2

Check the signal strength of bbc 1, it should be 100% or very near that.

Check an encrypted channel and see if it's over 65%. Any less and you are going to struggle

There has been lot of channel movements this month. Is your abm up to date. Copy over the sat_282_... xml files from github, or remove abm plugin reboot, reinstall abm plugin.

Try a software update

Try just tuner a, removing and disabling tuner b.

Try a manual scan and see if that works. If so, its definitely abm your problem. Especially as you say it works for 24 hours then fails. So overnight update is probably causing probs

Had the same problem, I had a very old LNB, changed it to a new octo so now working and 8 feeds into the house

I had this turned out one of my dish leads was bad, I had to use tuner a and set tuner b on a loop until I got the lead fixed

I have had this problem too with the OpenVix image as well as OpenATV.

Tuner A set up as Single Simple 28.2E
Tuner B set up as Single Simple 28.2E

Tried with and without disceqc enabled.

When I check signal strength, nothing on Tuner A, but Tuner B is fine.
Swap satellite feeds around, problem stays, so nothing on Tuner A, and Tuner B is fine.

Both feeds are okay on my official Sly box.

Could it be a faulty Tuner module?

I had a peek inside the box in case there was anything that I could reseat. I notice that Tuner A is much smaller than Tuner B. Does it have different characteristics?

It is a Zgemma Star 2S, twin sat receiver. I have used the top and the bottom right F-connector socket. Not using the Loop Out.

Ok this is interesting I've been testing openatv for the last few days on my h2h hoping to release an image sadly I don't think this is going to happen sorry woosh.

On some sat channels mainly itv 1hd the signal has gone low then lost all sound changed to any other channel and the sounds back switch it back to 103 sound goes a gain 10 minuets later the signal on sat has been lower than 45% reflashed openvix and all is fine, the signal isn't perfect but doesn't go less than 55%

After writing this I have had major signal issues on premier plus 1 but itv 1hd is fine anyone based in Leeds to have a look at my dish to see what's happening lol

curious if you use tuner A and tuner B both lower ones what do you get?

Tuner B is the top one, so plugging into the loop below it instead, means that nothing works. Should I change the tuner config settings too?

Does anyone know why Zgemma use different tuners in the box? And what the differences are?

Currently I am using tuner b, which is the top f-type socket, and tuner a which is the bottom right socket.

If I move tuner b to the loop socket below it then I get no signal on either tuner.

Inside the box tuner a is much smaller. It makes me wonder whether it is as good as the bigger tuner a.

if your box is like posted above i would be setting it up [ tuners ] to match.do they not give handbooks with these boxes or all in chinese? my readings are tuners A + B are the lower ones.

rang satworld he says top and lower right according to photo so not to use tuner loop out which is b ?confusing lol.
lnb in and tuner A and maybe tuner B not configured?

tuner A is bottom right, tuner B is top left.

This diagram from the user manual makes it a little clearer

lnb in and tuner A and maybe tuner B not configured?

Okay so that confirms that the box is wired correctly and I hope that the tuners are configured correctly. Unfortunately, Tuner A still gives no signal. When I swap sat feeds, with the cable that was working in Tuner B, the result is the same.

My suspicion is that Tuner A is faulty or at the very least different in performance to Tuner B. Perhaps the signal level is too high or too low for it. Or perhaps the voltage from it is not suitable for the LNB.

Not sure what to do next apart from send the box back to the supplier.

am currently having the same problem with my 2s. i got the tunner failed alert. i took out the wires and put into my old freesat reciever and it works with no problem. meaning there is no problem with my lnb. i also connected my signal finder to the freesat box and i got power in the signal finder but i when i do the same to the 2s, no power comes to the signal finder. which makes me to believe the box is not sending power to the LNB. when it first happened and i flashed my box, it worked again then i turn the box off and on and same thing happens. that also makes me thing it could be a software flaw
