Viewing EPG online (?)

Yes - it's the same.

It's just easier -- for me -- to scroll through 2500 channels with a mouse and keyboard than with a TV remote.

What you've said is true -- I want the EPG online to be the same as the EPG on my TV. I just want to be able to browse on my computer/online.

You've described what I want.
This isn't clear.
You want the online version to be the same as your TV EPG?

Why do you need to scroll through 2500 channels on your TV EPG in order to find what you're looking for?
This just tells me your IPTV provider has no idea what he's doing.

In order to look at the synopsis of a sci-fi movie you have to trawl through thousands of sports, Asian and children's channels ?

You still haven't said where you are in the world yet

Sorry - I thought I had. Yes, America.

Not to find what I'm looking for.

It's 7pm I'd like to watch something .... I want to see what catches my eye.

It's the same reason people want to go through TVGuide.com as compared to their cable provider's channel guide. :/

Sorry for the bump but I think this seems like a good idea. Not sure why people were so confused

Being able to access a set epg from a dedicated website, programme, or phone app would be awesome

Was any progress ever made on this?

I find it confusing. I think most people have their favourite channels setup very similar to how Sky has them ordered = TV Guide

For me, there are so many steps before changing a channel in the proposed setup. Example would be.....
  • Download EPG XML file from provider to laptop
  • Use some custom tool (that doesn't seem to already exist) to parse the file on laptop
  • Browse through this file to see whats on
  • Once you find something you want to watch, THEN you pick up the TV remote and change to that channel
I just look through the TV Guide on my TV and then change to the channel. Seems a lot easier and quicker

If you REALLY wanted to make a tool to parse the file then you could easily do this with Python. It's something I could do if I saw value in it. I feel like it's more work than it's worth and zero value to most people.
