Cork City Council
Demand for water remains high across the City network. City Council crews are working to repair leaks on the mains and property owners are again requested to repair leaks on their properties as quickly as possible. Water supplies should be turned off pending repair of leaks. Customers are advised that leak repair work can give rise to temporary disruption, pressure fluctuations and temporary discolouration.
During the present restrictions all consumers should now be receiving a daily refill supply to their properties. This should be adequate to refill storage tanks during the time of supply. If you are not receiving a water supply the likelihood is that the problem may be internal to your system.
Water Restrictions
In order to maintain supplies, the City Council will continue night restrictions over a number of areas which have very high leakage levels. These are detailed on the attached PDF document.
Supplies will be restricted from 7 p.m. this evening (29th December 2010) and again tomorrow evening (30th December 2010). Supplies will be restored from 10 a.m. each morning and water should begin to return to affected areas from this time. While it will take a number of hours to restore supplies to some of these areas, all such areas will receive sufficient mains supplies each day to refill storage tanks in houses and other buildings. The number of areas affected will reduce as demand returns to normal.
Standpipes
In order to assist householders with supply difficulties, stand pipes remain in place at the following locations:
-Boreenamanna Road (east of the junction of Wallace Avenue
-Deerpark
-Commons Road (Blackpool Church)
-Old Youghal Road (By Collins Barracks)
-Old Youghal Road (by Glenamoy Lawn)
Stand pipes will be operational from 10am to 8pm today (29th December 2010) and from 10am to 8pm tomorrow (30th December 2010).
Householders
Individual householders in areas where water supply has been restored and who do not yet have water supply to their properties should be aware that this may be as a result of:
-Leaks in their service pipe/supply,
-Still frozen pipework or
-Airlocks in the internal distribution system
Cork County Council
Water supply update
While the situation is improving in many areas, there are still severe problems which are being worked on by council staff. Consumers are again asked to use water sparingly and property owners and key holders should check for leaks in unoccupied premises anf shut off the water if necessary
North Cork
Efforts to restore the supply in Mallow received a major setback last night when an ESB transformed blew near the water pumphouse at Dromore. Severe interruptions will continue in all areas except thr town centre. Tankers will continue to supply water daily at Church of the Resurrection & Bowling Green car park from 12.00noon to 4.00pm daily and also at Woodview Drive and Canon Sheehan Place from 12.00 noon to 5.00pm
In relation to Fermoy Water supply it will be at least 2 more days of shut downs before there is enough water to pump to the high tower so that supply can be restored to Baile Ard, Uplands & Strawhall. We have major leaks/bursts through out the town and we have our own crews and private contractors working on repairing them. Water will be back on from 10.00 to 11.30am at Pike Road, including St.Josephs & Rathcarraig.
Water will be turned off in Oliver plunkett Hill (including Beechfield, Mallow road, Rathealy Road at 12.00 mid-day today for 24 hrs. Water will back on at Duntaheen Area today from mid-day until 3.00 p.m. Water will be off in Clondulane from 4.00 p.m today to 9.am. tomorrow The Council has provided tankers supplying water at Baile Ard, Beechfield and at Rathcarrig from 12.00 to 4.00pm daily.
The Allow Supply (which serves Freemount, Dromina, Milford, Liscarroll and surrounding areas). The Freemount reservoir has recovered and supply should be restored to all areas today. Charleville supply also recovered and no further interruptions. Reservoir level has recovered somewhat but still low in Millstreet - further nightly interruptions can be expected. Laugt and Caherbarnagh reservoirs are empty and severe disruptions will continue today.
Kanturk reservoir is very low and it is expected that the supply will be off again tonight. There appears to be a serious problem with vacant premises. Newmarket can also expect some disruptions especially to the higher parts of the town.
South Cork
Inniscarra, Innishannon, Glashaboy are in full production and reservoirs are slowly building. Major leak located and repaired in Cobh yesterday has greatly improved situation there but Cobh demand remains high - pressure reduction will be employed at night but cut-off can hopefully be avoided.
Glanmire area will also have pressure reduction at night for a number of days yet. Macroom remains under significant stress and supply will be cut-off overnight (9pm-9am but may not make it to 9pm tonight). We have breaks in Rylane, Donoughmore and Grenagh that we hope to repair today. Carrigadrohid burst and is shut off-added complication is that it is fed from Macroom.
Myrtleville has been badly affected but we hope to have it resolved today.
West Cork
The water supply situation is still critical throughout the Western Division. Water production is at significantly increased levels, e.g. Glengarriff and Castletownbere WSS's three times last month's average, Clonakilty RWSS up 20%, Skibbereen RWSS up 60%, and Schull Area up 50%.
Water supplies to the following areas had to be curtailed last night to allow reservoirs to build up: Higher areas in Bantry, Ballylickey, Snave, Drimoleague, Rosbrin, Ballydehob, Dunmanway Town, Union Hall, Ringaroga, Sherkin, Ballylinchy & Butlerstown.
Many of these areas may need to be curtailed again tonight, though a significant number of leaks in private premises have been detected, the situation is improving but will remain critical for a number of days yet, possibly weeks in some areas.
There are particular problems on the south side of Bantry in the Gortacloona Area and temporary supplies of drinking water are being provided at Bantry Fire Station from 12.00 noon to 5.00 pm today and over the coming days at the Bantry Area Office.
Consumers are again asked to conserve water and check all unoccupied premises for leaking pipes.

Dublin City Council
Update from 11.30am
The water supply situation to 12.00am last night was as follows: 28th December 2010 - Production 554.9Mld Demand - 575.8Mld.
This represents a loss of almost 20.9 Mld. Storage at Stillorgan is now down to 532Mld although during the night we did manage to put storage into some of the other reservoirs in the region. We still have a lot of work to do to stabilise the situation. Our crews continue to work on identifying leaks and dealing with burst pipes. We are maintaining our appeal to homeowners and all key holders for businesses, schools etc to check for leaks within their property.
The very restrictive regime will have to continue. As many schools and businesses are still closed for the Christmas period we are again applying restrictions and widespread cut-offs from 6pm this evening the 29th December to 12 noon tomorrow, 30th December.
It should also be noted that there could be loss of supply in other areas at short notice due to broken mains and every effort is being made to advise people of these more localised problems on the website also. Where water supply has been off due to broken mains and these are fixed during the day we will endeavour to alter the restrictions so that they get some water during the evening/night although this will be difficult to achieve in all cases.
We are very mindful of the importance of New Year's Eve to business and we will advise the public and business community of our proposals in that regard tomorrow (30th).
We would ask key holders to return and check their premises to ensure that there in water damage arising from burst pipes.
The areas where water will be cutoff or have pressure reduced are listed below, the shut off or reduction in pressure will last from 6pm (29th) to 12pm (30th).

We have repaired nine watermain leaks over the past three days, however, we are experiencing alot of problems across the network which our staff are dealing with on a daily basis. The water network is more prone to leaks as temperatures rise after the severe cold weather and we will continue to repair leaks as they occur.

Limerick County Council
Limerick County Council has warned of ongoing disruption to water supplies throughout the county.
Following a meeting of the local authority's Crisis Management Team this morning it was decided that due to a reduction in the amount of storage available in reservoirs, regular night-time restrictions in service can be expected until water levels are restored to normal.
In addition, due to breakages in water mains, unannounced disruptions to water supply can also be expected during daytime hours pending the repair of such breakages.
Customers should also be aware that those water users located at the extremity of water mains, or in elevated areas, are most likely to experience interruption to supply.
Property owners are requested to inspect vacant/closed premises and address any leakage issues detected.
Limerick County Council is requesting all water users to continue to conserve water supplies during this recovery period.
Boil water notices continue to apply to the Abbeyfeale, Kilmallock and Newcastle West Water Supply Schemes

Ardee - town supply holding, problem supplying outlying areas in Blakestown, Smarmore and Stabannon. Further repairs to be carried out today.
Dundalk - production up from 20k m3 to 28k m3, DTC attending to large bursts today. Improvement in the number of homes without supply. Delivery of supply where necessary.
Omeath - reservoir full after supply turned off last night. number of leaks in unoccupied houses and supply turned off to them. Supply may be turned off again tonight.
Tallanstown - reduced pressure, reservoir in Dunbin short of required balance and further repairs ongoing today.
Clogherhead - reservoir full again following improvements in supply from Drogheda.
Drogheda - levels in Rosehall dropping, leak detection ongoing. Stalee holding at full capacity. Repairs ongoing small number of water deliveries as required.

Dunleer - 2 large bursts being attended to, number of houses may be without supply.
Tullyallen - levels are low but rising following repairs and supply should be ok.
Collon - some houses in outlying areas such as Philipstown and Rathesker may be experiencing problems.
Overall message remains the same as yesterday crews continuing to work to restore supplies in areas affected. Again request assistance of public in reporting domestic leaks or frozen stopcocks, checking unoccupied properties and commercial premises and farmers to check agricultural connections. All calls to be made to Emergency Number and will be followed up.
Longford County Council
The water supply for Longford Town and surrounding areas is fed from the Knockahaw Reservoir. Water levels are at a critical level at present. Last night it was necessary to shut off the water supply from 8.00pm until 8.00am this morning.
It is likely that the water supply will have to be turned off later today. While the Council is pumping water into the system as quickly as possible it has not been possible to reach the levels that are necessary in order to supply customers.
Customers who have not had water since before the thaw commenced are still experiencing problems related to frozen pipes. It is thought that the difficulties caused by the freeze will clear over the next two days. While the thaw is ongoing some pipes which are deeper in the ground are still frozen.
Customers who have had a water supply and who find that they no longer have water are being affected by falling pressure which is resulting from leaks and high consumption.
It is likely that water supplies in many areas will have to be restricted over the coming days in order to try to restore water levels.
Further updates will be posted on the Council's website as regularly as possible.
Customers are urged to please make every effort to conserve water today and in the coming days.
The Council regrets any inconvenience that is caused by disruptions to service.
