Been covered before and is problematic using during installation.
Install it after you are up and running.

@benijofar: Thanks for that. I couldn't see any point where it said 'as of now you can use micro SD' even though it was alluded to that this was ok at some point. Didn't want to pick an odd time.

So I have to build swap etc all on a USB, flash the online build then remove that config and reconfig it to my microSD? And when/if there is a wooshbuild upgrade I have to go back to using a USB, upgrade, go back to microSD again?

EDIT: Re-reading it would appear the contentious issue is going to be the swap location being on USB, as EPG is set after the full build has been installed by which time I could have rejigged my storage locations. So I guess the last word is 'can use microSD as of step 5'.

OK zgemma star 2s came today, extracted the files, quick formatted my brand new usb stick. Extracted the build zip folder, moved the zgemma file onto the usb checked the folder structure all good. Connected up the box put USB in the back powered on and the box just booted up open atv 5.1, didn't say flh or flash or anything on digital display it just said boot. When the flash process is taking place will anything appear on the TV? My problem may be I'm using a SanDisk ultra 32Gb USB 3.0

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to this thank you

I'd try a different drive Rapture_ni, USB 2 and maybe 16gb or less, that's what I use anyway and have never had a problem yet

So I powered off the box there/deep sleep removed the drive and plugged it back into my laptop to check the files on it and a movie and time shift folder have been created on it.. is this normal?

Yes it would be normal as the box creates these folders, are you using the wooshbuild base build then going from there? I have a drive which has the build on then another that I would use as my drive for timeshift etc. it should say flsh on the front of the box , this can take a few minutes. Then you will see the wooshbuild screen

Yes, I planned on using this solely for the basebuild I'll try reformatting my drive again and moving folders if it doesn't work I'll try a different usb. Problem is they're all USB 3

I'm trying this on a 2s box. I've now tried all 3 drives and no flash occurring

Is my folder structure correct on my drive

I have.....

zgemma folder
.......sh1 folder
....................force
................... imageversion
....................kernel.bin
.............. .... roofs.bin
.................... splash.bin

And if that is how your USB structure is there is no reason at all why the box is not flashing.

If the front port wont flash try the rear port.
Only have one usb device in when trying to flash

Even if you can lay your hands on the cheapest USB stick you may find it will work. These boxes really don't like USB3 sticks. A pain I know.

Should I be using the front port? Wasn't sure if you could flash from either. I'm trying to put base build on, I read something on another forum about pressing the power button when booting does this work?

It doesn't matter which you use, front or back but I say use the front because I know where everyone is at that point of the instructions.

The power button on the front if for if the file called force which you have on the stick is called noforce.

BaseBuild will flash automatically without pressing anything. With that said, if the screen on the front of the box says USB you have nothing to lose by pressing thr front power button once at this time.

Don't need to press power button anymore, first boxes I flashed you had to but not anymore

Would the size of these drives be an issue I've tried, a 32 a 64 and a tb hard drive with a 13gb partion they are all USB 3.0 . I've ordered a SanDisk cruzer blade 16gb usb2.0 hopefully when it comes it will work.

I don't even get a message saying usb on front of box

Yes I think it does" in the guide it suggest using a 512mb for the build, I have data traveller 16gb that I use for all flashing, you can use the bigger drives once you initialise them and set to ext3 or ext4

You cannot flash online / local to a Micro SD card as the coding doesn't look for the card, it only looks for a USB device. So you can only use it once yu have flash WooshBuil.

I have already had a huge rant on this to the point where I even demonstrated what happened and when with screen shots, granted it is in the H2S thread.

Here you go, I found it just for giggles

WooshMan on a rant about Micro SD cards and flashing
