Eagle Nest Decorah Eagles

I've been away for almost three weeks, and there is a remarkable change in the size and shape of the chicks.

Feeding Time And Flight Practice

Dad drops by with a fish and retreats to the cam trunk for his safety. After the fish is claimed/stolen he returns to the nest only to get an earful from an unlucky, empty talon'd youngin. He leaves then to it with a nice fly off. The fish is eaten, down to the last gulp of the tail and nestovers are nibbled on by the unlucky one. We later see energized flight training and some d has a sneeze fit. Edited Highlights from 7:14 - 8:38.

Not such good news from Decorah.

All three have fledged, but one has suffered a broken wing, but has been taken in to have surgery. Another was taken in overnight as it wasn't known if it could fly/survive, after a good nights feeding drinking, it was released again and they know where it is. Unfortunately, there is no known location for the third one.

source: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Decorah-Eagles/166402660081214?fref=ts , this is the facebook page for the eagles. this is a good resource for anyone interested as you don't have to be a member of facebook to keep up, just pop in and out as you wish to get the latest info.

Alrighty then Guys, the Eagles have landed again. There have already been three eggs laid, the weather is very snowy that seems to be the norm for this stage every year. :)

A few snippets from their Facebook page (you might just have to force yourself to sign up Ally, just for the daily updates ;) )

Mom laid egg #3 in Decorah tonight at 6:57pm CST. Congratulations and a nice cornhusk bouquet to the two of you! I was struck by the similarities between Mom's egg-laying and the description Sherri published earlier today. If you have a chance, take a look - it's the second post down.

We hope you enjoy the egg-ceptional videos!

Eaglewhisperer18. PS, egg-laying, and a look at all three eggs after the cutscene at 2:31. Note how gingerly Mom moves her large talons around the eggs - and remember, those little egglets are roughly the size of tennis balls! http://youtu.be/yW5ON82YjME

Hope your right this year Ally, last year's didn't last the year. I personally think they left too early because of the tics/fleas.

are you telling me none of our chicks last year survived.God,i did see in some of gmans updates, that we lost one of our Eagles youngsters.I did know we lost them all.I love watching them wheelo, from hatch, until they fly away.
But after that,i hope they have a great life.I did wonder over the past couple of years, that the new eagles who are on the nest, are our previous young Eagles.I only watch on TechKing.I wish our new young Eagles a great life

God wheelo i just Thought when the young eagles fly of,they get partners and come back again. You have just destroyed my dream.Only joking wheelo.thumbs up:

I really think you would enjoy following the Facebook links they put up every day (I know you are not on facebook, but even if you opened in the name ally bird, followed just the decorah people) because they give you links to the best of the last 24 hours videos, then they keep up with the birds throughout the year, it is fascinating the info and photos they have.
Or if you just don't want to join facebook, just visit their page once a day to keep up it is at - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Decorah-Eagles/166402660081214?fref=ts

On another note, this years chicks are looking almost ready to fly away, their is lots of practicing going on in the nest. Lets cross our fingers and toes for these guys.

Thanks Wheelo.I will be keeping an eye on our eagles through out the year.(y)

Just looking on Eagles facebook page.Nice pic of our three new eagles.

He's in and out a couple of times a day now, and the middle one has left the nest, but it is unsure whether he has left the tree as it was dark.

The two older ones are out of the nest now, and the third is flapping like mad, won't be long now till they are all out and about flying around Decorah.
