What is the difference between satellite and terrestrial broadcast

Please could someone educate me on the difference between satellite and terrestrial broadcasts and how each works and their pros and cons?

Satalite uses a dish to receiver hundreds if not thousands of channels terrestrial is what you get with an aerial on your roof and limited channels in some cases only FTA

or would it be called freeview in the uk,and saorview in southern ireland by aerial.
