Nvidia Shield tv

I may be wrong!! But I thought that File explorer for Shield was no longer supported!! But before I get my head bit off I did say I may be wrong!! I know there are alternatives to the programme!

You will notice the difference. In my opinion best to use tivimate app. The upscailing will be better than most tvs due to the processing power. Don't bother with the pro version unless you are a real gamer
Getting the shield for Xmas as a prezzie of my daughters. Decided to go for this as I like the idea of the AI upscaling from my iptv

@ baz is the upscaling any good with iptv as was unsure if I would see a difference iptv

I have a Samsung Q90R which was last years flagship tv from Samsung and has all the bells and whistles etc yet running IPTV through the shield tv rather than via a tv app or via fire stick there’s a big leap in picture quality..crisper clearer and brighter.

There is more to the Pro version than a bit of Gaming!! Extra Ram and built in storage!!
Also has two usb ports so storage options is increased! You can host your own media platform like Plex!! And it can integrate to smart hub facilities! I don't do gaming but the listed extras are well worth the extra £40

At the time i bought my sheild tv they were selling the sheild tv only for £90 and i bought the remote for £30 and a couple of weeks later currys were selling the sheild tv for £120. so to me the extra was not worth it. for a few usb ports and a extra gig of ram. I just added a 125 gig sd card for storage that i had lying around. but horses for courses i suppose. I have a seedbox which i just connect to kodi which is just as good as plex.

I host my Plex and have a Seedbox that's connected to my Plex which is ideal. I can just share Media remotely without having to piss around with any physical hard ware.

I had a oldish PC running the server that ran it well for years and switched to the shield because it was quiet. It does the job though. I paid £60 for my Shield and sold the Gamepad for £25 so paid £35 for a Shield. Solid bit of kit.

I don't need a seed box!! But have integrated to smart hub!! 2 tb laptop hddnand 256gb usb stick! Plus it's pretty future proof!!

As mik123 says, horses for courses. Its about what you are going to use it for that should determine which box you use.

I have an 18 month old X96max and to be fair its runs perfect. Ethernet , 64gb space, 2.4-5g WiFi and picture quality ok for my needs there about £25 nowadays.

I had a Nvidia Shield Pro 4k and the YouTube and a.i.was out of this world but the Formuler GTV is better for the IPTV with a dedicated second to non IPTV app which is what I want a box for.
I'm torn between the 2, both have good, no bad points.
In an ideal world I'd have both,
Nvidia YouTube Netflix games (don't play though),
Formuler GTV pure magic for IPTV
but the thing is, having both would mean sitting in the shed, no tea on the table, and undies never washed, her indoors said your knackers are coming off if you get both.

I said , might as well get them both then cause the knackers don't get f##kin used in here !!

Im just glad the WiFi is good at mine, I'm typing on my tablet from the shed

The point I was making was the difference between basic shield and Pro, not to compare it with other boxes! Horses for courses like said! I wouldn't trade my pro for any other box Inc Formulas! I have now just the Shield and a H7s for Satellite!! As main viewing!!

The main reason I bought my sheild tv was for 4k upscailing. You will not get a picture as good for iptv on any other box. I have never understood the opinion on a dedicated iptv box. It is just a android box with the manufacturers app pre installed.

I've had a Nvidia and Formuler GTV and recently.
Nvidia's good and the a.i.is good but not everything upscales
Formuler GTV is good and the app for ITPV is very.g.
Would I have a Nvidia Shield 4k pro again ?
Yep
Will I keep my GTV ?
Yep
Can I have both and still get fed and called "Honey pie"

Nope

I sold my shield maybe 4 yrs ago , I hated the user interface , am assuming it has had hopefully a radical update since then . I switched to apple tv 4k , which is much more user friendly and more attractive on the tv screen. But of course app choice limitations are a factor. Now as time goes on , the wife and I have to use subtitles when watching TV and the apple tv doesnt support subs on BBC iplayer which is game changer for both of us , so temporarily I have replaced it with a firestick on the main tv , she doesnt watch my IPTV and doesn't watch any live tv other than through the apps. iplayer, itv player my4 etc. So it works fine for her and the fire tv supports subs in iplayer.
So inb my room am looking to replace H9S with maybe a Formuler box although 2gb ram puts me off . Still looking , Looked at "Buzz" but that grey/black live tv app doesn't appeal at all.

Not much difference between the Firestick and Shield in terms of interface. Apple TV looks really clean and simple looking which is great.

Started off a quite interesting thread!! Then turned to rat shit with moronic comments !! Comedy Central is open if you are bored!!

OK let's get it back on track, I liked the Nvidia Shield and its upscaling which is brilliant. I'd probably get another in time to come but for IPTV I prefer the Formuler GTV.

I'd say picture quality is slightly better on the Nvidia but what the Formuler lacks in that slight quality loss it names up for in the interface and iptv app.

In a perfect world
Nvidia for YouTube Netflix
Formuler iptv
All running on a new oled tv
Plus a Bose surround sound system

Then,

I woke up

Its quality vs interface , don't get me wrong I like the Nvidia but for now I watch more iptv so I've chosen the easy to use interface over a slight and I mean slight picture improvement.
Nvidias good, but not cartwheel good

What it will not do is upscale to 4k quality. It will take 720 to 1080 and sd to 720 quality. quite a bit will depend on the initial quality of the providers streams. Most providers claim they stream in full HD but they don't that is where you will notice the difference. In a nutshell if all is set up properly the pic quality should be as good as the the old c/s days.

I kept getting a message
Unable to upscale this stream
Or words to that effect especially in iptv.

Now I'm not sure if the was me and the way I had it set up but it was quite selective what it would upscale

Probably the app you were using. Did it say AI upscailing unsuported? It works on all channels with tivimate app for me.
