2025 is here and no new shield on the horizon.... what do you recommend for my needs below?

No flashing required you just run CoreELEC from a usb stick and you have dual boot to either CoreELEC or Android.

So does that mean when you want to view profile 7 remux files you always need the USB to boot into coreELEC. My understanding is that you flash this and now once on there it boots up by default, now whether android can run at the same time is another thing

Not sure myself. Most just say if you have devices that support dolby vision it will play the files at a slightly lower quality. Pretty much as aristotle said.

So I domt think it's worth all the hassle rather have a more all round device

Oh ok that's interesting. I looking at this potentially to watch my remux dolby files but also, use the android feature to run tailscale and stream of my enigma 2 receivers.
Can you install tailscale on the am6+?

I don’t own one so can’t comment.
But if you don’t have a big collection of DV movies with P7 FEL I wouldn’t bother and I would just use Kodi on android.
You can only run one os at a time.
You have to reboot into the os you want to change from.

It’s only P7 FEL that is not supported and will not play at all on most devices running Android.
Lots of devices support P5 and P8.1 now.
The Shield can play P7 but not FEL and plays it as MEL.
Users complain of a red push on the shield though.

And just to confirm, if i have a profile 7 FEL remux film and play that using gen 3 cube on KODI, it will automatically scale it down to profile 7 MEL?

Also, what about the sound format, if my remux is dolby atmos, would the cube downgrade that dolby digital or something?

Yes the cube will play P7 using kodi to convert them.
Vimu player has the ability convert P7.
The cube can also pass through lossless audio and Atmos.
