Amazon to block ‘dodgy’ Fire TV Stick apps from TODAY in new major global piracy crackdown

Please excuse me if I am missing something but I have read through this thread and bottom line is we need to turn off automatic updates on our fiiresticks? Didnt Linesman66 say early in the thread to turn off automatic update in settings which solves the problem? If the solution is so simple why have we got all these other remedies ?

Read first post again, amazon is removing iptv apps from its store and going to block sideloading apps even not from their store.
Not exactly, they say they are going to block apps that gives access to pirated content. This may just be apps that directly do this rather than IPTV apps that can be used for all kinds of streaming, legal and otherwise, depending on where they are directed. They aren't inherently 'pirate' apps and therefore may not be the immediate target.

Ok I understand what you are saying so example disney plus app or other official ones availabe but can they stop accounts available for these from other sources if you know what I mean. We will see  to be honest don't remember last time I even used my firestick , bought a Dcolor GD1 4K TV Stick a while back and also as you will know other android devices available even my android TV but perhaps old schoolI can just use my enigma2 satellite receiver with my iptv 👍

: This exploit was patched for FireTVs in FireOS7 (PS7706/5106) and FireOS8 (RS8153/3202) at the beginning of October, 2025. For Fire Tablets, this exploit is confirmed working
If you set up the third party launcher and l.m settings you will have no problem

its in the iptv guide thread

Amazon sent out their threats to fire stick owners on Friday 31/10 has anything actually happened? They managed to get a lot of publicity from the media. I suggest that was the intention, In this way they want to frighten ordinary people who cant afford SKY and the like. Sky and other big players are concerned that the average person no longer views IPTV as anything more serious than parking on double yellows. So their stratergy is make it appear more difficult for Joe Public to get and use as many are not good with 'tec' Back to my original point is there any evidence that Amazon have carried out their threat?

Just checked firestick and it looks as though it managed to download an update during the boot up sequence before apps (netguard) is able to block the update app. So Amazon has found a way around it.

Just set up a new firestick, it updated software during set up and I still downloaded downloader and from it the app my supplier uses for streaming. So what's the story here?

If the article is correct they will block apps that that ACE deems to be related to piracy.
No access to a list if it exists yet and that’s if it is actually true.
Wait and see game I guess.

It makes sense for Amazon to enforce it as they have a big stake in streaming these days.
Streaming is one of the least profitable areas of their business.
But it does look good as company who supply streaming services to get on board with the ACE antipiracy coalition.
