Tanix TX5 Seup problems

I think the point is Mr moshi they flash another image and they can get the apps without play store could be wrong
Not really been following the thread Mike. If they create a bogus Google account or better still as advised by myself and ferret. Don't register anything and install apps via a usb flash drive.

I think there's a lot of paranoia about iptv apps, players etc.
Every time the media report on "dodgy firesticks" in an attempt to scare people, they always, without fail, say that the providers or the players/software are scamming and can take over their equipment or empty their bank account.

Garbage like this must stick in people's minds.
They think if they install the wrong thing, the box is going to go on the rampage while they're in bed, pi$$ing in the kettle and curling one off in the Utterly Butterly.

I had to do a factory reset so all my work has been undone!
Grrrrrrr :rage:

Is it a sign of a poor quality box that it has went into a boot loop when brand new?
Should I return it?

Something I noticed during the boot loop is that it said 'phone is starting'.
Surely the software for a tv box and a phone are different?

You would be much happier with a chromecast or something mate.

Folk migrating from firesticks will always find uncertified kit a hassle, but i dont understand why they still need to sideload apps with a firestick. However a lot will use downloader, while this maybe fine for provider apps i mean they wont want to infect your box its a risk using it for anything else. Even using a google account not everything is available as it would be via a certified bit of kit. So its back to the easy method downloader.

And trust me on this your boxes could be mining bitcoin or visiting pay for click sites in the background if your not careful what you download via downloader.

Ever wondered how you can aquire dodgy accounts for the likes of Disney,Netflix, Discovery etc ? Dodgy uncertified apps stealing accounts. Scan everything you sideload and install via USB and filemanager is my advice.

I just want something to replace the firestick that I can install iptv apps onto.

The tanix was recommended by you and others on this forum as being a relatively safe and reliable android box. That's why I went for it.
I could have bought a cheaper box but was hoping that spending a bit more got me something more reliable.

Is it common for these uncertified boxes to go into a boot loop, especially only a few days after being plugged in?

I try to avoid using downloader if at all possible. I try to stick to the apk’s posted on here.
The few times I have resorted to downloader the apk usually had adware in it, and that's the ones that are obviously compromised. I'm sure there are many other apks that appear safe but are doing bad stuff in the background.

Think I with go the pc to usb stick to tanix box option this time round. Yes I know you already told me to do that but I didn't think I would be needing to reload all the apps so soon again.

What virus scanner do you suggest to use?

Boxes with mobile android are at the lower end of the scale certified boxes are much better. Again google don't care that your downloading a IPTV app.

Some movie apps etc have adds etc if you don't pay for premium version. IPTV apps of a supplier are safe you may at worst get a warning its not been downloaded from play store.

You could be at more risk if downloading a app from a Chinese IPTV app provider

If you can get the app from the playstore then no need to use downloader. If not see if the app is available from the developers website as sometimes they are.
Any app you get just check in on the virustotal before install but remember some of these apps will have false positive.
If they show trojan malware avoid.
I don’t see an issue with using the Google playstore as Google have no control over your type of device not do they care what you do with it.
Just disable play protect.
Not sure what caused your device to get stuck in boot loop.
But once you have messed and installed everything use the option on atvTools to clear all apps cache and then in the apps section select Running apps and Third party apps and close them then shutdown device.
Using atvTools to send apps to your device should not do any harm.

I was told by Mr Ferret to avoid the play store as you have to sign in. Malware = data theft.
Did i put it exactly like that 🤔

What i have said is personally i dont sign into any account to avoid any tractability, playstore apps are fine. Downloader is were your likely to get Malware.

Ive no issues and certainly have never had the box go into boot loop.

Anyway you have setup this box before what you now know its a twenty min job.
