No mate it went straight to boot. Did not say flash or anything. I have done it twice now like I said once deleting everything but zgemma folder and once not deleting anything. Just don't know why it won't flash. I have checked it against your original backup and all files are the same. Just more kb in each file.
 
Really sorry sn0wman1, to be honest I really don't know the answer. Put a link in here to the post you said you made and see if there is anyone who can help.



UPDATE:
sn0wman1 resolved his issue by removing the usb device he uses for timeshift & recordings. It then flashed first try. He was then able to re-connect his device and everything worke fine.

I am buying a Zgemma Star H1 but I only have VM cable. Will these instructions work the same for this box too and in the photos it shows SKY so just want to make sure it will work for VM cable too. Sorry for the foolish questions but I don't want to mess this up and end up with the wrong box. Thank you all of you
 
Fantastic box this. Massive upgrade from the 2s and a brilliant firmware thank you.

No more faffing about with the box, brilliant!

You need a tech person to answer this one for you akace123. I have no idea how a cable box works or even if this image would run on an H1 as I have only tested it on a H2S for sat channels. Sorry.

Believe if you read Wooshmans instructions for installation etc. he states that he has kept it bare bones as far as extra bits & pieces & I think you can download all of this if you wish, at your own risk of course.

dazbon is right, this is a bare bones sly+ box equivalent so the misses is happy. I personally use IPTV from the plugins menu as it gives me instant access to Films and TV series but again as dazbon has already pointed out, do so at your own risk. If you start getting issues afterwards it is not a problem with the image.

After redoing the f connectors 10 times I've finally cracked it...I disconnected my raspberry pi and avr and suddenly I've got a perfect signal.

Well done on this guide... well done for answering most of the questions... well done for kissing my ass.

This just reminds me of myself a few months ago. Totally noob that didn't have a clue. Did my research, read every guide, read every post, tried vix backup, tried openatv backup, tried every option in the menus, tried a bucket load of plugins, tried setting up barebones from scratch, and within the space of a few weeks you go from noob to pretty much knowing all you need to know.

I admire your balls on releasing a backup image so early in the game.

My only concern is your batch file for installing a line. This is brilliant for noobs, but on the other hand I don't think its a great idea. Getting people to click on .bat files is a dangerous move. Unless the person is computer-savvy they have no idea what the file is doing when they click it. It could be doing anything. It could be installing a virus. They are just trusting you that its valid. Educating noobs how to ftp to their box is also very useful. Its used for installing your line. Its used for editing your line. Its used for downloading error logs. Its used for installing 3rd party skins and components. etc etc.

If you make everything too easy, they are at loss if something simple goes wrong.

Just my opinion though. Keep up the good work. You can take over when I disappear from this forum. Which was meant to be last week, but I like helping people. ;)
 
Thank you very much for the time in writing this guide, it is superb. Hopefully will be giving it a go next week :) Does the sky-skin come pre-bundled with the firmware or do you have to add that on afterwards separately?

Everything you need is already in place. The only things you need to do are in the instructions. Follow them carefully and you will have your box up and running in no time.
 
Thanks man, I am really looking forward to giving it a try. That skin is just the icing on the cake for this firmware isn't it :D

Hey, your ass deserves kissing mate and I think everyone would agree.

Good post, you are right, a batch file could do anything and it would be the first thing I would open to see what it was trying to do. It is not something I would suggest anyone runs blindly even though it is in my setup.

With that said, I created the batch file for my mate because I could make it easier for him. Once that was made, I thought it would be great for the newcomer who just wants to follow 1.2.3 instructions to get the box up and running without having to download an additional ftp client.

With your post I will edit my instructions to give them the option to use FTP where they can use your guide.

UPDATE: Instructions updated to reflect the danger in blindly clicking batch files with FTP being the second option.

Wooshman - a quick question for you - the EPG - does it download that from a webserver or from the actual satellite dish? I have had a box before, and it used to have download EPG option, but it suddenly stopped working. I assume because the server is down now, and no way to reprogram it I assume as it is hardcoded into the box. I am hoping the zgemma box doesn't work in the same way and pulls the EPG listings down from the satellite dish instead or something?

Kiddac do you know if this wooshman backup file will work on the 2s model,have asked but he is not sure
 
no I am pretty sure they don't as they are completely different models. h1, h2, 2s all one. next gen are all another image h.2s h.s, h.2h etc
Anyway I am not here to answer questions. wooshman is doing a fine job answering questions himself. ;)

ok while I am here... crossepg and xmltvimporter pull the epg from the internet. The ones listed in the epg settings, enable eit, mhw, viasat etc are the crappy ones that are pulled in over air.

Should the installed and working CrossEPG go down (unlikely) xmltv-import is installed and needs some simple settings to get it up and running quickly.
