What's new

Anyone yet indirectly affected by the Corona outbreak?

I have an in-law who's stuck in Gambia as he was flying back via Morocco, who've apparently stopped flights, so now he's flying direct to the UK (Birmingham instead of Manchester) so I have to collect his car from the car park at Manchester Airport tonight.

And the Missus' Grandad passed away this aft, the paramedics were all suited up in case it was coronavirus related and everything seemed to take an age. I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything to do with coronavirus, he'd had various health issues for a few years now and his kidneys weren't functioning anywhere near as they should so it's more than likely they've failed. 86 though, not a bad innings.

So to hear about the missues grandad mate. Seemed to have lived a long fruitful life which is good tbh.

Hope your in law arrives back in UK safely.

Cheers CK. He did live a good life, lived in his own home till the end without being put in a care home, which was a big thing for him.

His Daughter had picked him up this morning and taken him for a drive in the countryside, then back to hers and he passed away while she was making a cup of tea. So a quite pleasant last day for him, didn't suffer at the end either which is always a bonus.

At least he was with his loved ones mate when he passed away. Thats what we all want when we leave this world.

I was fortunate to be with my brother and parents when my gran sadly passed away few years ago. It gives you a sense of peace knowing you were there when they left.

I'd said to his Daughter that was a good thing, that she looked after him till the very end. And he's at peace now, which brings with it rest for her as she took on most of the load of caring for him.

She is an amazing person tbh for caring and being there for him all the way through.

Some people and I have seen just throw elderly people in care homes. Dont feel comfortable at all with that.

Especially kids doing that to their parents who raised him and were 24/7 for them to then be chucked in a care home is not right imo. Can understand some circumstances where sometimes care home may be the only option.

That’s shit mate but if there’s a way to go that’s not a bad last day.

I was talking to a friend tonight who is in the logistics business of moving air freight between countries. He said the freight per kilo of goods last night was $1.50. Today it is $10 per kilo because of the grounded planes.

The vessels shouldn't make any difference really. The cargo is food/supplies etc not people, why is this being stopped when it poses no threat and alleviates a worsening situation?
Are they actively trying to make things worse?

The paying passengers are what make the profit for the jet to fly.

Not sure I undersrand fully.
So it's not normal air freight, just small parcel type freight that tags a ride on the 14:50 from Benidorm to Manchester with 350 sandy-cracked pi$$ artists?

No the main cargo of the jumbo jet is not passengers or their luggage but commercial cargo. Our main export is Scottish salmon.
