I'm not sure you'll be able to garner much info from looking at how long Sky Italia took to complete the rollout of their new systems with card pairing etc. If Sky UK have everything in place to do it, it'll depend solely on their risk appetite. They could probably do it overnight but that would give the project managers heart attacks.
The only real question left to ponder is how long SD will last

If the startup price doesn't appeal to you with only SD premium channels and HD freeview channels then hold off.

Don't know what all the fuss is about,if you can only get sd channels its still hell of a lot cheaper than sky.If you want hd then pay the money.EASY.

Its all greek to me too, I'm wondering if its as simply as sky changing the way HD is sent, why do they not change all channels the same way and stop us getting any, sd included? Why only HD going away? If its not the encryption method then why wont it be cracked? Like I said, I'm new as well...so excuse any obvious idiocies lol

when you watch tv on cardsharing then you have to know this thing gona happen with any package you buy becauz watching channels through cardsharing is not a legal way to watch.
so skyuk and sky ita and some other provider always fighting agaist cardsharing and changing their encryption algo to force users to watch tv on their boxes through legal way for that user have to pay to much and cardsharing lovers always trying to crack that encryption algo and open channels on cardsharing servers and give to users in cheap price as compare to legal subcription.
so don't need to panic when some channel gona down on cardsharing server this thing happen whenever provider do some changes cardshaing servers owners need time to crack it if they can't then that channel not clear. if u still wana that channel then take sub from original service provider and pay higher price.
come to topic arts1,2, crime, nat geo,history still ok on sd mode if u wana watch.

My guesses from a quick read around & without looking too much into it, it seems Sky are simply looking to control the way the content is delivered.
Part of that is tying cards to official boxes and doing other stuff at the head end to get more content through their bandwidth.
CS servers obviously do not use official boxes so the card they have will not work any more, I guess killing of the CS servers is no more than a side effect of the overall project rather than it's main aim.
SD channels will still work as [already mentioned] they still have too many SD only customers
So someone needs to figure out how to get a CS server to spoof itself as an official box or something else, I also guess they'll move to a permanently online box so it'll get interrogated regularly to check its status.

I thought if you got a line from the provider the CS server worked from their end as they had the official box where you were getting the channels.

I was thinking the exact same thing. If people are sharing from "local cards", then why have these hd channels gone off?

Some people will know They cracked the sky card system and brought out thier own sky cards now we have C/S which again cracked thier system Come on guys like Saabr says in post 189 Give the blokes in the know , A chance its only been 24 hours If your house fell down you know it wouldnt be put right in 24- 48 hours If you are missing things that much . Pay the full price???
There is no easy answer, it is all very Technical, but the simple answer is that they are not simply sharing their card via internet, Sky have finally got on top of the game, so it's advantage SKY for now

Ye your right mate, lets hope that the experts in the know how can find a fix in the future. In the meantime we still have SD which is fine imo.
I still have most of the HD channels working apart from the ones stated here which have gone, anyone still got most of theirs working?
Everyone is in the same boat mate, it is a sky thing, not an individual server thing.
