Edision OS MINI Plus or Zgemma H5

dref

Newbie
I am considering buying one of these (Edision OS MINI+ Plus 1x DVB-S2/T2/C H.265 HEVC Linux Enigma 2 Digital Receiver HD 1080p PVR).
I will be using it on satellite and cable

What is your opinion regarding this receivers?

If the Edison is the better box, why does the ZGemma far outsell it?
Zgemma's made there name through cost alone, a lot of people are price driven buying cheap thinking it's all going to end soon. Buy a decent quality receiver and enjoy watching TV.
Buy a zgemma and enjoy contributing to the forum ;-)

As Dangerous said Zgemma came onto the martket with inexpensive boxes plus this site is associated with Zgemma brand.
However, for whatever reason the new Zgemma boxes are not far off the price mark of tit's competitors such as the Edison which arguably is a better box. Moreover, if purchased from the official outlet the Edison comes with 2 year warranty.

I'm not going to knock the Zgemma because they serve a purpose and are decent boxes in their own right but as mentioned above if it's pound-for-pound value there are now other (superior?) alternatives.

As a guide:
IF your budget <£100 then Zgemma or Edison osmini
if your budget >£100 and <£200 then Technomate , Edison OSMega, Xtrend 8500, Miraclebox
If >£200 then Mutant HD51, New Octagan 4K or VU+

anything else get an Amazon firestick :)

Cost alone? The Edison box is like £20 more.... not even that. Zgemma offers a lot of functionality for the money, and that's why it's popular, but my point is, if the Edison was significantly better, it would significantly outsell the Zgemma and I don't believe it.

As for the zgemma, meh, quality seems okay. About what I'd expect from Satellite. Not as good as DVB-T but okay.... I'd need to see real hard evidence to think the Edison box was that much better.

Here's the problem... you're not really convincing me. Arguably better? Come on. We need a bit more than that.

From what I can see, zgemma is just another cheap Chinese box, but it's pretty high spec all things considered. The Edison is no different. It's a chinese box with similar'ish spec? Maybe it'll come clear in the future.

This one is reasonably priced compare to the Zgemma, but doesn't have a second LNB :(

The zgemma range grew in popularity very quickly mainly because of price & support on Techkings as already stated by others but the edi was mostly overlooked until a few members bought them to compare as they were only around £20 more than zgemma at the time, reviews followed on here & the edi started to gain pace against the zgemma's. The general consensus is that the Edi is the box to buy out of the two but as the zgemma has so many backup builds & premium support on here the vast majority of new member’s head straight for the zgemma section.
I’ve used both zgemma’s & edision & rate them highly in terms of function over price although I do prefer the edision mini combo over the H2H as it just seems to work providing less trouble/issues on the cable side.
At the end of the day it’s all personal choice:
be a sheep & go zgemma
be informed & go edision
be fully informed & dig a little deeper in your pocket to buy a higher grade box.

You have to look at many factors, features is one.
Edison comes with built in WiFi so if you're not near a router then it means another £20 spend on homeplugs.
Warranty support is another area. I have not had to send a Edison back but I did with another brand from same supplier and there was no issues with that.
You will find that the price gap is less than £20....

No one here has to convince you of anything Stoke we are just trying to help answer your question from experiences:

Zegemmas are a cheap box and generally seen as the starting block
The Edision OS Mini is a little better but cost a little more.
and so it goes on..

I wouldn't want either in my front room personally, I paid about £250 for the box I am happy with.

Your budget will be the limiting factor here

@Stoke, the vast majority of zgemma buyers are new or upgrading from single tuners, backup builds & support plus word of mouth are the driving force behind the zgemma popularity, the Edision brand hasnt receive the same level of support or backup builds so is generally used by more experienced users

I may have got this round my neck but isn't the Edision Mini + a single tuner box whereas the H5 has a sat and cable tuners?
I appreciate that the single tuner supports both cable and sat but can you use both at the same time if you want to record and watch another channel?

The standard OS mini has a 2 tuner option.

The os mini has a twin version

Ignore me forgotten it doesn't have cable option

The OS Mini has because I've got one. The mini+ has only one tuner:

The brand new member of the EDISION OS mini family, the OS mini+ DVB-S2/T2/C is here to amaze you! It is an all-new addition to our E2 LINUX receivers and comes with E2 Linux operational system, H.265 HEVC support, BROADCOM MIPS Dual Core 742MHz proccessor, 512MB NAND Flash & 512MB RAM memory, WiFi & Bluetooth on Board, Full Media Player, EDISION 4:1 UNIVERSAL IR remote control, plus a NEW updated 8-digit VFD Display. All the above, combined with unbelievable price and uncompromised EDISION guarantee and support, make it a one way option for your choice!!!
EDISION OS MINI+ HAS A BRAND NEW TYPE OF SINGLE TUNER. IT CAN BE USED FOR EITHER DVB-S/S2, DVB-T/T2 OR DVB-C. CONNECT BOTH SATELLITE AND TERRESTRIAL FEEDS OR BOTH SATELLITE AND CABLE FEEDS. TUNER CAN BE SET TO DVB-S2 BUT DUE TO THE TUNER TYPE ITS POSSIBLE TO SCAN BOTH SIGNAL TYPES (via AutobouquetsMaker, Terrestrial Scan or Satellite scan). IT'S THEN POSSIBLE TO SWITCH BETWEEN SATELLITE AND TERRESTRIAL/ CABLE CHANNELS THROUGH CHANNEL LIST WITHOUT CHANGING TUNER SETTINGS.
Enigma 2 support from OE-Alliance teams OpenViX and OpenATV. Also official support from OpenPLi.
