harris hawk

Does it have jesses (leather tethers on its legs) or bells attached? Serious question. Harris Hawks aren't native to the UK but are very popular with falconers and handlers - hence my question about jesses and bells. It's more than likely an escapee. See if you can identify the colour coding on its leg rings. If you have a big leather gauntlet (or really tough skin on your hands and arms!) you could try and get it to come to you and feed from your hand. Only joking about the tough skin though, get a proper gauntlet for that. Get some dead chicks from a pet shop, pull the head off one and slap the body against your gauntlet when it's near. That's the sign that it will have been trained to recognise to return to its handler for food. Lovely birds Harrises, flown them many a time.
